IS Jihadists May Be Disguised Among IDPs to Enter the Kurdistan Region
A Kurdish MP warns that extremist may attempt to sneak in to the region when the Mosul operation starts
the Islamic State (IS) insurgents may attempt to sneak into the Kurdistan Region and central Iraq when the Mosul operation starts, Kurdish officials warned.
As the Iraqi army, in cooperation with Kurdish Peshmerga forces, are preparing for a massive military operation to reclaim Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul, officials raise concerns over the possibility of IS jihadists attempting to disguise among Mosul IDPs.
Iraqi and US officials previously anticipated that nearly one million residents of Nineveh province may seek refuge by the time of Mosul assault.
Member of the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary Committee for Peshmerga affairs, Bahar Abdulrahman, told BasNews that IS jihadists, including IS child soldiers, may disguise themselves among the real IDPs, and try to enter the Kurdistan Region.
“We previously witnessed such attempts by the extremists who attempted to enter the EU alongside the influx of actual refugees,” Bahar said.
The Kurdish MP urged the Kurdistan Region to take avery possible measures to deal with such possible issues while it is taking in thousands of IDPs.
She insisted that the IDPs should be settled in the caps in order to control the disguised jihadists and those adopting a radical jihadist ideology.
However, Kurdish Member of the Iraqi Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security Affairs, Shakhawan Abdullah, ensures that the Mosul residents won’t be moving to the Kurdistan Region during the Mosul operation, arguing that the offensives will be launched through the Kurdistan Region front lines, and civilians will likely move to the central Iraqi provinces.
