Support for HDP and the Kurdish people from Catalans

Feleknas Uca arrived in Catalan capital Barcelona on Monday and visited the Catalan Parliament, the Barcelona Municipality, Esquerra Republicana Party, and media organs like the Cat24 news network and RadioCat.

Uca spoke at a press conference for Catalan media and talked about the arrests, pressure and threats targeting the HDP, the trustees appointed to the municipalities, pressure on the opposition media and the issues Êzidîs face after seeking refuge in Kurdistan due to ISIS attacks.

THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE DEMOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE OF KURDISTAN

Uca mentioned that 12 HDP MPs are in prison and the party offices are attacked every day, but they will continue their struggle despite everything.

Uca stated that the Êzidî Kurds, who took refuge in several cities including Amed and Nusaybin after ISIS attacked Shengal, weren’t subjected to the same treatment as other Syrian asylum seekers and that they were faced with an intense policy of oppression, assimilation and relocation. Uca said the attacks on places where Kurds live and the arrests of thousands of people from all walks of life was geared towards changing the demographic structure of the region and that the Kurdish people were intimidated in an attempt to force them out of their own lands out of fear.

SUPPORT FOR HDP AND THE KURDISH PEOPLE FROM CATALAN POLITICIANS

In the meeting with the Barcelona Municipality and the political parties in the Catalan Parliament, the Catalans expressed they will be in solidarity and cooperation with HDP. Catalan politicians emphasized that it is unacceptable for the state to arrest and pressure HDP MPs and mayors, who were democratically elected with popular vote, under the guise of fighting terrorism.

Catalan electees called on the Spanish central government to immediately stop the weapons trade with Turkey and reassess the relationship.

HDP and the Kurdish freedom struggle was met with great interest in the meetings, conferences and other visits in the program organized by the human rights group CIEMEN.

CIEMEN’s main purpose is to promote and show solidarity with ethnic groups, cultures and languages under pressure and threat of extinction, and the group has had a close relationship with the Kurdish people for the last 14 years. David Minoves and Antoni Lluis spoke in the name of CIEMEN and stated that their relationship with the Kurdish people will improve further.

Demonstration in solidarity with Kurdistan in the Basque Country

More than 30 organizations from all over the Basque Country have organized A demonstration in Solidarity with the Kurdish freedom struggle in North Kurdistan and Rojava at the weekend. Among the organizers were international solidarity groups like Herri Kurduarekin Alkartasun Ekimena, Newroz Elkartea, Komite Internazionalistak, Askapena and Biji Kurdistan, which work politically for several years on Kurdistan, as well as unions and political parties like EH-Bildu and Podemos.

The demonstration was held in Bilbao, the biggest city of the Basque Country, with a preparation time of two months. It was the biggest solidarity demonstration with the Kurds in the history of the Basque people.

In the demonstration the growing repression against Kurds in North Kurdistan and Turkey has been criticized and solidarity with the freedom struggle of the Kurds has been expressed. Different speakers mentioned the arrest of thousands of political activists, journalists, HDP/DBP members, co-mayors and HDP parliamentarians, the forced administrations put on the Kurdish municipalities and thus the destruction of all democratic spheres in the state of Turkey. Also the revolution in Rojava was subject of speeches which urged to show solidarity for this important development for Syria, the Middle East and the world.

Demonstrators particularly emphasized the terror of the Turkish state on Kurdish women. Women, who joined the World Women's March in March 2015 in North Kurdistan, held speeches and commemorated Kurdish women who have been killed since the restart of the war in North Kurdistan.

I firmly believe that if the PKK were to consolidate all it's different factions and call the Kurdish people to join them in none violet weekly protests - demanding an Independent North Kurdistan - they would regain the support they have been losing ever since certain Kurds tried to turn the PKK into a Turk loving group

You have the vast numbers - you do not need weapons - you have more Kurds in Turkey than the populations of many independent countries

The PKK needs to regain it's enthusiasm - teach the people Kurdish history and gain the respect of the people - and most importantly focus it's intention on an

INDEPENDENT KURDISTAN

I would like to remind you all that Turkey is supporting ISIS and fast becoming a Sunni Islamic State in it's own right - with Erdogan as GOD - a state in which Kurds will not be welcome

That is very good idea but it doesn't work in Turkey. This works in free world but Turkey is not a free world. Turkish ruling upper class live in 21th century but culturally and intellectually they are behind, they have the same mentality of Ottoman times. You can not reason with them because they are at the position of power. After almost 40 years of war, they still insist on war.

We are not talking about '40 years of war'

The suppression of the Kurdish Nation and the savage systematic torture and annihilation of the Kurdish population has been taking place ever since Winston Churchill gassed Kurds because they objected to the separation of their homeland in 1920

Prior to the above - Kurds were tricked by the Ottoman Empire, with false promises of a free country, and used by the Ottomans in their fight against Christians and other non-Muslims groups

The barbaric annihilation of Kurds has been going on for the past 100 years

One of the worst attacks on Kurds in Turkey took place in Dersim in 1937 long before Ocalan was even born :((
