Poll shows 74 percent of Iraqis think Islam should be basis!

PostAuthor: ZaniYar » Sat May 07, 2005 9:46 am

According to Daily Star news paper,
a poll based on some 2,705 interviews showed while just over 74 percent of Iraqis thought Islam should be the sole or main source of legislation, just 2 percent said religion should play no role in law-making. The poll was conducted from April 11 to April 20 by an Iraqi firm employed by the conservative U.S. International Republican Institute.

Its obvious that 26% left is kurdish population, So I guess this is another wake up call for kurds!!..

No......you forgot the Assyrians/Chaldeans and the Sunnis most of which are secular. Remember the majority are Shias who are strict adherents of Islam. They just can't wait to do their mut3a (another word for LEGALIZED PROSTITUTION) marriages and their latmiya on hussein  Anyways what are u complaining about, since in ur provinces you have the right not to implement islamic laws. At least that's what federalism entails right ? Its the rest of bloody Iraq who has to suffer. I hope people know why I voted for Allawi !!!

I think the shia should have the freedom to experience a shia dictatorship just like the iranians have gone through. It's good for their brains and will help them grow up and understand their religion better. The sunnis also must be allowed to have a wahhabi-like government. Kurdistan must remain secular and preferably separate from the arabs.

In a way more the shia push for a religious dictatorship, better chance the kurds have to say: we don't want to stay with these crazy arabs.

Yeah i thought of this too, why do people need to expierience failure first till they learn about it... There must be educated men between those 74%, cant they see from other countries like their neighboor Iran that a shariat system wont work these days?
In the time of Mohammed and a little later it was a descent system for them which prevented a lot of uncivilized things (pre-islam arabs were really uncivilized), there was order and relative peace but they have to move on now and not stick with old rules which dont fit anymore.

The good thing for islam which keeps this religion so big is that the qoran's words are from god, there cant be so many different sekts as the christans expierienced, the qoran will never change and most of the rules are clear and universal.
The bad thing is also that the qoran's words are from god, this prevents any good change of old rules which dont fit these days anymore. Old rules which makes females lower than males, rules which bans interest, rules which makes that devoted muslims will always try to impose their religion to others via a shariat.

btw I dont think this poll is accurate, older polls showed that only the shia majority wanted a shariat system with one ayatollah as the leader and since they are 60-65% of the population i believe they (the iraqi firm) interviewed relatively too many shia's and less sunni arabs and kurds.
