A school teacher starts her new job at a school in Diyarbakir/Amed in SE Turkey. To make a good impression she explains for the class that she is a Turk. She asks the students to raise their hands if they are Turks. Everybody, except a little boy, raise their hands. The teacher was looking at the child and asks him; “Loran, why didn’t you raise up your hand?”
He said: “Because I’m not a Turk. I’m a Kurd and proud of it!”.
The teacher couldn’t believe what she just heard and asks: “Why are you a Kurd?”
Loran said: “Because my mother and father are Kurds, therefore I’m a Kurd too.
The teacher was out of patience and said: “Really. It is not a reason to be a Kurd. If your parents are Kurds, it doesn’t mean that you’re a Kurd too. What if your mother was a murderer, your father a terrorist and your brother a thief?”
Loran said: “Then I would have been a Turk…”
