Help With Lyrics

PostAuthor: hawk » Sun Jun 24, 2007 11:27 am

Hi Guys!

I've uploaded an mp3 for one of my favorite songs in Kudish, and I'd very much appreciate help with the lyrics.

http://files-upload.com/318993/AhronMen ... e.mp3.html

I think (I'm not sure) that "Barane" means rain.
kiras hi te = "her dress" ?
malassa = silk? satin? some other type of fabric?

All the rest is beyond me, and my mother is too busy this week to sit and explain stuff!

Anybody up for the challenge?

This song is actually two songs - both traditional Kurdish songs. It's very common to mix in two or three songs together, like Arhon Menaxem has done!

Baranê - The Rain

Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş"***1, the rain, the rain...
Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş", the rain, the rain...

Baran barî rehmetê, baranê, baranê... The rain has fallen (the) merciful, the rain, the rain...
Baran barî rehmetê, baranê, baranê... The rain has fallen (the) merciful, the rain, the rain...

Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş", the rain, the rain...
Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş", the rain, the rain...

Gurme bi erdê kir, xeta baranê, baranê, baranê... Boom it hit the earth, the rainbow, the rain, the rain...
Gurme bi erdê kir, xeta baranê, baranê, baranê... Boom it hit the earth, the rainbow, the rain, the rain...

Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş", the rain, the rain...
Baranê guşe guşe, baranê, baranê... The rain goes "guşe guş", the rain, the rain...

Kirasê te - Your Dress

Kirasê te melese, hewar lê, hewar lê lê, hewar lê... Your dress is Meles***2, oh my, my oh my, oh my...
Kirasê te melese, can û can, ez qurban... Your dress is Meles, soul and soul, (may) I (be) sacrifice(d)...

Te ne bir ber meqesê, hewar lê, hewar lê lê, hewar lê... You didn't put it under the siccor, oh my, my oh my, oh my...
Te ne bir ber meqesê, can û can, ez qurban... You didn't put it under the siccor, oh my, my oh my, oh my...

Kirasê te medrûme***3, hewar lê, hewar lê lê, hewar lê... Your dress I sew, oh my, my oh my, oh my
Kirasê te medrûme, can û can, ez qurban... Your dress I sew, soul and soul, (may) I (be) sacrifice(d)...

Hûrik hûrik medrûme, dilê lê, way lê lê, hay lê lê... Tiny little I sew, oh heart, way oh my, hey oh my...
Hûrik hûrik medrûme, can û can, ez qurban... Tiny little I sew, soul and soul, (may) I (be) sacrifice(d)...

Comments based on semantic & cultural background:
***1 Kurdish sound description for a strong rain fall (similar to English idiom: "Raining cats and dogs")!
***2 Meles is here in the meaning of a fine quality fabric
***3 "Medrûme" is actually: "Didirûm ez" = "I am sowing"

Hewar Lê/Dilê lê/Way lê/Hay lê in litteral translation would be "Scream Oh"/"Heart Oh" etc. - which is meaningless in itself - it simply means "oh no" or "oh my" - as in something you exclaim when you are dejected - and don't know what else to say!

Also - in a way you are sumoning "Scream" and "Heart" by putting "lê" (which is a form of personification) - lê is also used for females/things...

Diri, you are KING!

Thank you so much for this. You made my day!

It's amazing how fun and easy it is to learn a language through lyrics (instead of boring grammar or language exercises).

You are most welcome my dear brother! :)

Yes - I also learned other languages first by looking at their idioms - which reveals their mentality in many ways... :D

But - I have a request from you - could you please upload an avatar?

Sure. I uploaded the symbol of the spiral, that I usually use in forums. At least until I think of something more creative.
