A kurdish song from Western Kurds that I have to transltate. Much things that I don't understand Either my Kurdish is gone, or their Kurdish is strange :

Yar derdê hewiyê ês,a dirana

Yar wezo nexwes,im min bavêjin mesîla
Yar bavêjin ser min qetê xesîla
Yar kula hewiyê ês,a pesîra

Yar wezo nexwes,o min bavêjin odêyo
Yar bavêjin ser min qetê cilêyo
Yar derdê min hewiyê ês,a dirayê.

Direct translation:

Yar Wezo
I am the Yar


Yar Wezo birîndarim min bavên zozana
I am the Yar, I am wounded - throw me to the Zozans.

Yar bavêjin ser min qetê organa
Yar throw on me the layers of the blankets

Yar derdê hewiyê ês,a dirana
Yar the pain(psychological pain) of being the second wife the pain of toothache

Yar wezo nexwes,im min bavêjin mesîla
I am the Yar, I am unhealthy(sick) throw me to the mesîls (I don't know what "Mesîl" means)

Yar bavêjin ser min qetê xesîla
Yar throw on me the layers of the xesîls (I don't know what "Xesîl" means)

Yar kula hewiyê ês,a pesîra
Yar the wound of being the second wife is the pain of pesîrs(I don't know what "Pesîr" means)

Yar wezo nexwes,o min bavêjin odêyo
I am the Yar, unhealthy(sick) throw me into the room(s)

Yar bavêjin ser min qetê cilêyo
Yar throw on me the layers of the cloths

Yar derdê min hewiyê ês,a dirayê.
Yar my pain(psychological pain) second wife is the pain of the aching tooth...


Yar is the same as "Lover" - "Love" (noun) or boyfriend/girlfriend...

Wezo = ez im ? curious, and all these ends in "o" like zazaki, I wonder which dialect the singer writes.

"Wezo" is the same as "Wezim", is the same as "Ez im", is the same as "I am"...

Yes the endings are meant to be poetic... But I doubt that this is a dialect - it is merely for the sake of poetic sonans that the author has written SOME lines with "o" ending - OR - the song is a mix of two dialects...

Or - it can be "o" for a boy and "a" for a girl... Meaning the first one is sung by a boy - and then when the "o" ending start the girl sings to the boy...

And I found out that "Pesîr" actually is "Persîv" - meaning: "Flue" - when one has a cold...

So the line goes:

"Yar the wound of being the second wife is the pain of the flue"

My God!!! do you realize that in the Kurdish institute, THEY ask ME to translate it, for Kurds there say they understand nothing of that ? poetic invention yeah... great ...

So rejoice ! I have about 10 songs to translate like that. This one was the worse I think... But I think that I'll have many other questions on this forum this week...

I think it is most probable that it is poetic invention yes... Because no dialect is like that - dialects are logical... That song - is not logical...

But if you need any help at all - just shout... I'll run along to help Agents of the Emperialist West...

That's very interesting. I wonder if there is a Kurmancî dialect that does this. There is something very similar to this in Sineyî-Soranî (Soranî from Sine/Sanandaj). The ends are often modified to O's as well except it's not for 'im' (mine), it's for 'it' (yours). So instead of saying "Hezit lê nebû" (you didn't like it), you say "Hezo lê newû", or instead of 'Destit xush', you say 'Deso xush'

Does someone knows what "Seredor" means ?

Heval is right, about dailect in Sine .

I am goint to belive that sine-ish dialect has some Kirmanci roots.
for example we say Eycim , and kirmancs say Debêcim .
while in sorani dailect they say "ellêm" .


may be thats why I Naturaly like kirmanci dailect, whenver somebody speaks kirmanci I just love to learn his.her language. I feel that langauge is something in my heart ...that I have forgotten.

Well, every Soranî dialect has Kurmancî roots, since Soranî is a Kurmancî dialect... but you are right, kak Dyaoko... Sineyî is a lot closer to Kurmancî than other Soranî dialects such as the Silêmanî dialect.

Like you said, in Sineyî, Bêje is used like Kurmancî instead of standard Soranî, Billê. Sineyî also has this trend where "rough" letters are omitted from the language (rough letters like d, b and t) So Dibêjî is simply "Êjî" (dibêjim is "êjim" and na/mabêje is "mêje"). A word like Rastî is pronounced Rasî, in Sine, or "Nebû" is "Newû". Even "Kursan" instead of "Kurdistan" !
