These ancient Western Iranians populations are all apparented. That is right that Azerbayjan was "turcized" at a late period, between 15th-16th century...

They say that their language is Iranian, near to pehlevi but unfortunately they don't give any example.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

Maybe not all including your Talysh teacher, but the majority of the Talysh population, from what I know, are Shiite Muslims.

Heval Tomjez, from my knowledge, they are another Indo-Iranian tribe whose language is very close to both Kurdish and Farsi. They mostly live near the Azerbaijan border with Iran, and they identify themselves as a distinct people from the Azeri's because of their Indo-Iranian background.

I guess Talesh is near Caspian Sea not Azerbaigoo... or may be i mixed up Talesh with something else...

Near talesh there is a city called "Deh-Kurd" (Kurd village )

No, I believe they are near both so you are probably right with that. I am sure there are a good number of Talysh people who are Sunni, but to my knowledge, the majority are Shiite.

Anyways, here is an ethnic map for the Talysh people (not sure how accurate it is though):

ps. you should move this topic to the Iraq,Syria,Iran,Turkey section
