Gay in Iran...

There are in Persian literature and Arab also a lot of stories about homosexual loves... In fact, Islamic society during a long time was more tolerant about it than in Christianity... Saadi, Farid od Din 'Attar, (with Mahmud and Ayaz's stories) for example, and even Jalal al Rumî in his relations with Shamd od Din... and many else.

In fact homosexual love was a common topic in islamic poetry. And in Safavid courts, it was very openly practiced, and painting also in miniatures.

do u think the love between Rumi and Shams was a sexual love ?

by the way , in shia Crying cermonies, they say things about their imams which are pretty gay... like :
"Ya Imam I wish you could come and touch me , and kiss me , and I would kiss u too" and there are MANY songs which are made for Imams which if u remove the IMAM word , u would think it is from a male lover for a girl ...
such stuff in their crying...if u listen to their cryings for Imams in Farsi u would say they are gay.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

Perhaps not sexual, probably it was only a platonic love. But his feelings were passionate, and for a sufi behind any kind of love is a reflect of divine love, so being in love for God or for his Sheikh is the same thing.

Making sex or not does not change the homosexual aspect or not. If Rumî was mainly attracted by men he was homosexual, but perhaps it was not the case. Perhaps he was only in love with this man, and the rest of the time heterosexual. It is difficult to know because none of us was in Rumî's bedroom ! :o
