Hello. What are the most well known Kurdish folk songs, and where could I find sheet music for them? I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide.

Some people on here are very shy ;)

The more you post the more people will take notice of you :D

Piling is the person on here who knows the most about Kurdish Folk Songs - so I suggest you send her a PM

Piling works very hard and probably has not even seen your post :-D

Thank you for the advice. I'll become active in other areas of the forum.

If Piling is hard at work, I rather not trouble her.

There are thousands and thousands of Kurdish folk songs ! From various regions, dialects and occasions…

Celîlê Celîl and before Casimê Celîl collected a great number of them and published them, lyrics and music.

Thank you Piling. This was exactly the information I was hoping for.

Could I just ask you one more question, and then I won't bother you anymore? Where could I purchase one of the music collections by Celile Celil, or Casime Celil?

Celîlê Cemîl lives in Vienna, now, and had founded the Institut for Kurdologie, with his huge library. They sell the whole series of Stran û Awazên Kurdî (lyrics and music)

Of course, you need to learn Deutsch or Kurdish to read their site

Avesta publishing house has also an anthology of songs :

Avesta is a Turkish-Kurdish site, so in both cases, a good way to improve your Kurmancî ;)

Here is one of them from the Library of Institut Kurde de Paris (I am the Librarian) :

Thank you so much Piling, for generously sharing your time and knowledge, with someone you've never met. I'm sure others like myself, who can neither read German, Turkish, or Kurmanji, will stumble upon this thread and appreciate your help equally.

I'll call, and if that fails email, both the Institute for Kurdology and Avesta, and see if I can someone who can speak English, or be willing to translate an English language email.

All the best to you, with your enviable resource of books, at the Institut Kurde de Paris.
