Kurdish athlete Kovan Hassan's eyes on Paralympics London medal
ERBIL, September 3 (AKnews) – Kurdish player Kovan Hassan will participate in the 2012 London Paralympics on August 29 and he is eying up one of the Paralympics' medals.
Hassan told AKnews: "The Iraqi delegation and I are in a very good spiritual condition and I have many fans and supporters around to show excellent performance in the tournament."
Some 4,200 female and male athletes from 164 states will participate in the tournament in 20 different games.
Hassan said: "The London Paralympics will not be an easy competition but my eyes are on gaining medals in the spear throwing."
Hassan will participate in the spear, weight and disc throwing on September 4, 5 and 7.
In the Iranian delegation there is another Kurdish athlete Siamand Rahman who will participate in the tournament.
This is first time in the history of the Paralympics that a Kurdish player will participate. Hassan will travel to London with a delegation of 50 people.
Hassan was born in Akre town and has won many international and local medals. Hassan is expected to gain some medals in the tournament.
Head of Kurdistan's Paralympics committee Zahir Rashed earlier said: "It is an honor for Kurds to have such a good player and our citizens are playing in the Paralympics. I hope Hassan achieves good results."
