
Kurdish lifter breaks Paralympics record, wins gold medal
London- Iran’s National Powerlifting Team’s 100 kg+ category power lifter, Siamand Rahman, at Wednesday night broke Paralympics record and won the gold medal of the category.
The Kurdish lifter from the northwestern city of Shono (Oshnaviyah) lifted the 280 kg weight in his second attempt and gained Islamic Republic of Iran carvan’s 8th gold medal.
Faris al- Ajil from Iraq and Bae choon kion from South Korea won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Paralympics’ record of the category belonged to another Iranian athlete, Kazem Rajabi, who in Beijing Paralympics marked a world record by lifting the 265 kg weight and improved the world record 15 kilograms.
Rahman, too, improved the record 15 kilograms.
In his third attempt, he decided to lift 301 kg to record his name in Guiness Record Book, but the attempt was in no avail.
Speaking to reporters after receiving the gold medal he said he would remember the day and raising the Iranian national flag has been the best moment for him.
