Today, after 29 days of hunger strike, all handicapped activists have been arrested by the police in Erbil. According to reports they were beaten up in custody. Arrests took place after they changed location from parliament office in Sulaimaniyah to the Prime Minister office in Erbil. They also visited UNAMI office in Erbil. (see Kurdish press)

Our group started to advocate for the rights of the handicapped from the first day of their action. We are now seriously concerned about their health situation and the conditions of detention. We call on the Kurdish Regional Government to immediately release the detainees and listen to their demands.
