SULÊMANÎ, Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— Two students and a worker have been killed and fifty six others were injured due to a fire in a dormitory building for the students of the technical Institute in Sulaimaniyah (Sulêmanî) at dawn on Sunday, Feb.4.
The site of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said that a fire broke out in the dormitory building of students of the Technical Institute, led to the death of two students and a worker and 56 other students were injured.
The website quoted the spokesman of the Civil Defense, Khalot Ahmed as saying: that the building named "paradise" was subjected to a massive fire caused the death of two students and a worker and injured 56 others,www.ekurd.net pointing out that the injured students were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Khalod Ahmed said "a large fire broke out at 1.45 am on Tuesday, in the building of the internal students department in Sinjar area in Sulaimaniyah city."
He added that "the fire caused the deaths of two students and a worker while injured 57 others with varying degrees of severity burns and suffocation."
Ahmed pointed out that the "civil defense teams and ambulances rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the fire and was able after great efforts to control the fire," adding that " the dead and injured were taken to nearby hospitals."
Ahmed added that "the Directorate formed a committee to investigate the causes of the fire and assess the losses and damages resulting from it", adding that "the only witness to the incident was one of the workers who died before completing the investigation."
