ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Imprisoned Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan has called talks with Turkish officials aiming to halt a decades-long conflict a historic step and urged all sides involved to show “care and sensitivity.”

His brief message was conveyed Saturday by three pro-Kurdish legislators who were allowed to travel to his prison island off Istanbul to confer about the peace process.

The government declared in December that it was holding talks with Ocalan with the goal of convincing the rebels to declare a cease-fire, withdraw from Turkey and disarm.

Legislator Pervin Buldan told reporters Ocalan also expressed hope officials and soldiers kidnapped by the rebels would soon be released.

Ocalan’s Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, is fighting for self-rule in southeast Turkey. The conflict has killed tens of thousands since 1984.

The same sort of care and sensitivity Turkey have used while murdering innocent Kurds and bombing Kandil X(

The members of the PKK joined to fight for the Freedom of Kurdistan. Many thousands of people have died for that freedom. The freedom fighters gave up their homes, families and all they held dear because a free Kurdistan was more important than anything else to them.

The PKK should become the army of a FREE KURDISTAN or, at the very least, the army of the Autonomous Region of North Kurdistan. It is wrong to expect them to leave the country they love so much that they are prepared to die for it.

I thought that perhaps Ocalan had actually stood up for the Kurds at last and demanded they have the right of self rule. But I remember that since he has been in prison he has been declaring himself to be Turkish X(

Turkish army is still bombing Qandil. Trials against KCK and hundreds of Kurds are going on. Thousands of Kurds are in jail. And Öcalan asks to the guerilla to free its prisoners. In exchange of what ?

For the moment it sounds like another one-sided ceased fire. Not for Kurds, Just for Öcalan. But after all, if PKK says 'Al-Haqq Apo is greater than Kurdish people' and obey, they will have the end they deserve.
