A number of Kirkuk Provincial Council members are debating that not carrying out the provincial elections will affect Kirkuk badly.
Ibrahim Khalil, a Kurdish member of the council told Kirkuk Now “Not conducting the elections will affect all the people of Kirkuk badly without any difference.”
“This will deprive the people of Kirkuk from practicing their rights in voting for their representatives that can serve the province and contribute to its development,” Khalil added.
While Muhammad Khalil al-Jburi, an Arab member of the council told Kirkuk Now “Not carrying out the elections and not changing the so-familiar faces is something pessimistic; we are for the elections being conducted because we, the Arabs, have suffered the most harm, and the representatives of the Arabs do not reflect the Arab people of Kirkuk.”
Anthea: FOOKING Arabs should have been thrown out of Kirkuk when their beloved leader Saddam was removed from power. He paid his Arabs to steal Kurdish homes, businesses and land. They should NEVER have been allowed to remain there
“We won’t be obstacles for the election if the positions are given according to the results of the elections or the population density; we do agree on both of the conditions and we demand that the election be carried out as soon as possible under the supervision of the central government,” Al-Jburi commented.
Tahsin Kahiye, a Turkmen member of the council told Kirkuk Now “The reason that the election is not being carried out are the conflicts and disputes amongst the different ethnicities, whether in the Kirkuk Provincial Council or the Iraqi Council of Representatives.”
Anthea: Turkmen sponsored and supported by Turkey to prevent Kurds taking control of Kirkuk, who the FOOK cares if they get a vote
He further stated that the disputes have led to the postponing of issuing the elections laws in the province, and explained that the delay in the election will adversely affect the situations in Kirkuk, saying “We demand agreements between the components of Kirkuk to write the elections laws so that the next provincial council will have more authority as the provincial councils of the other provinces of Iraq.”
The Independent High Electoral Commission announced on December 1, 2012, that the provincial election is not being conducted in Kirkuk with the other provinces of Iraq, which is set to take place on April 20, 2013.
