Chandeleur or Candles Day

PostAuthor: Piling » Fri Feb 01, 2013 4:15 pm

Tomorrow is Chandeleur Day or Candles Day, an ancient feast celebrating the return of the Light in winter.

At midnight, some people light candles.

But the most important is that it is the day of 'crêpes', sort of pancakes.

Recipe :

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Sift together flour, sugar and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, beat eggs and milk together with an electric mixer. Beat in flour mixture until smooth; stir in melted butter.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 2 tablespoons for each crepe. Tip and rotate pan to spread batter as thinly as possible. When you want to turn the crêpes on the other face, you make it jump from the pan and let it fell on it (and not on the ground). Brown on both sides and serve hot.

On February 2nd, for the first crêpe, you have to keep a coin in your hand. If you can make jump tour first one with the coin in your hand, you will be wealthy for all the year…

On February 13th will start the great fasting of Lent… 40 days of asceticism, vegetables and water only. For that reason, now, I guzzler like a bear before winter :))

It is my last week with meat, and the next week my last week with eggs and dairy.

After that, Gandhi would eat more than me :p

I could live on chocolate for 40 days :ymdevil:

13 February what about 14 February and all the romantic candlelit Valentine dinners

If a man takes me out for a meal on Valentine's day and gives me lettuce and a bottle of water I am not going to be happy X(

Christ said 'when you are a guest, eat all what one puts in your plate', so in that case, that's ok.

That being the case, if a handsome young man takes you out for a meal (you are his guest) and the waiter gives you a delicious plate of lobster or chicken or anything that you absolutely LOVE, you would have to eat it :ymdevil:
