But If I say "Aw" won't he think that I burnt myself?
No... And I think you are trying to be funny - but since that was a very lame joke - I am not laughing...
In Kurdish we usualy say "Ax" or "Of" or just plain "aaaaaaaaaaa" would do...
Soranî is a little bit lighter... Kind of "posh" - well - not that I think that it is - just that they tend to speak very softly - except for in Koye... So I hear...

hewleri dialect is the closest to kurmanci...eg they say> ew goti, instead of ew wuti (most of other sorani speakers) and they dont miss the 'd' like people in sulaimany and kerkuk. eg
sulaimany say AZANIM
hewler say DAZANIM<< proper kurdish
and i never knew sorani was hard to learn and posh...really if so how?/
and in Koye they speak like hewleris..ie closest sorani to kurmanci
my sorani is a mix between all the cities..but it helps as some sulaiamny people cant even understand hewleris!!
so the fact that sulaimany people didnt understand is that they are a bit anti other areas of kurdistan (make fun of hewleris etc) no offence
