I promise to learn about Kurdistan, you don't need to buy one of my novels as a condition
for my learning about Kurdistan.

Baris, Diri, Dyaoko

I humbly beg your pardon for mistaking Turkmenistan for Kurdistan. If any
of you can suggest several books about Kurdistan (in English) that I can
purchase on the internet, I will do so.

Diri,

I assume you are a young man. If so, and if you are looking for a challenging
work, I strongly reccomend commercial fishing. It is hard, harsh and demanding
work but if you finally do become a good fisherman you will gain self pride and
manly satisfaction that few other can offer. Norwegian fishermen have been respected
for their skill and courage for several hundred years. I cannot get you a specific
job but I can point to where you can begin to look. Let me know.

Diri, There isn't any hidden meaning in my suggesting that you become a commercial fisherman. The only reason I brought it up is because you now live in Norway where fishing is still very much a way of life. I am very proud of having been a fisherman for 20 years. Personally because there is a great deal of satisfaction in meeting the challenges of the ocean.

And as a writer it gave me material for three novels and more than 30 short stories. While I wrote other books and stories
during those years, it is my sea novels and stories that are closest to my heart.

Thank you for the books you reccomended. I have found out about another title so I'm checking on all three now.

Oh :D

Well I see... Thank you for the suggestion, Mark, but I am not a shipper - and I will never be... It's not in my nature - even though I've been living in Norway most of my life, my nature lies in the mountains... Which also is a strong part of West-Norwegian culture - as it is in Kurdish culture...

I hope you enjoy those books - generally, an author by the name Mehrdad Izady, who's a prof. dr. at Harvard - writes fabulous works on the Kurds--- Try him! :)

I will look into your books now Mark... Thank you!

Thanks Diri,
I've just ordered the book from Amazon that you told me about, A MODERN HISTORY OF THE KURDS! Thank you for telling me where to find it.

I thought I should mention that my books are available as E-books. The good news
about E-books are that they are much cheaper considering the international cost of postage.
The bad news you have to read them off your computer or print them out.

I have been thinking about putting several of my short-short stories on Roj Bash Kurdistan forum -- Do you think that would be appropriate??

Hello Dyaoko,
As I just told Diri, I just ordered a book from Amazon that he reccomended I read called
A Modern History of the Kurds and am looking forward to reading it.

A year or so ago, I started a new web-site called http://www.was-is-will-be.com and the purpose
for it is for beginning writers here to write the great American novel. They have the opportunity to add a page, a paragragh or a chapter. Each writer adds to it until it grows into a novel. We haven't had as much success as we thought we would. It is a free site too. What do you think of a similar site for the Kurds? When you have time, please take a look at the format of http://www.was-is-will-be.com and let me know what you thik of a similar site in Kurdistan. Since it is a free site, it is more of a labour of love.

What do yo think about me posting several of my short-short stories on this forum?

You are welcome, Mark! :)

Glad you got around to it...

You're right about E-books... + One recieves the books instantly... But I think printing them out is a bad idea - since it'll cost in most cases...

By all means, Mark. In my oppinion, you are welcome to post your short stories on Roj bash Kurdistan - in the appropriate section... This section, the Shout Room, which we are presently in, is the right one to publish them in! :)

You have to run it by Dyaoko first, though - but I don't think he'll be of a different oppinion on this matter... :)

Good to have you here, Mark... Looking forward to reading some of those short stories...

After having a chance to think about it,
I don't think it would be appropriate for
me to put even some of my short short
stories on your forum. If anyone is
interested, all of my books are on
http://www.markraney.com, along
with descriptions of each book and
back-ground information about me.
So you and I agree that if anyone's interested
an e-book version is probably the best way
for them to go. Then if they like the way I
write and the things I write about then they
can purchase the paperback.

Your being a known dress designer impressed me,
and also brought back memories from years ago.
Not that I have ever done any dress designing, but
for ten years I was an industrial engineer & later plant
manager for companies that manufactured women's
apparrel. The first company made lingerie and sleepwear,
the second women's suits and dresses, and the third
women's sportswear and casual wear. It was high pressure,
controlled kaos, amid the thunder of three to four hundred
sewing machines constantly running, and I dearly loved it.
But after ten years of it, I took a year off to see if I could
write fiction, and sometime during that year I became
so obsessed with writing that I forgot about womans
apparral.

I can see from your dress design that you definitely have
talent, (you did design the dresses in the photo didn't you?)
good for you! And I agree that you certainly should not
become a commercial fisherman.
