I have always more pity for animals than for humans, I can't help that.

And notice that the wolf is the one who dies with the greatest dignity comparing with these scary yelling yielding human beasts.

See here is a big divide between western thinking and eastern thinking. I could never understand why people are so cynical they sympathize more with animals than with humans. Wolves aren't even sentinent. They can't even feel betrayal or hatred. It's outside of their cognitive capacity. While humans as double-edged as they are, even the most simple of them, they understand basic concepts and have the memory to reciprocate relationships. While a wolf/dog will either see you as prey/threat/pack leader. People say animals are innocent and all that, but that isn't a deliberate trait in animals, it's just that they aren't apparently geared to have an understanding of ethics/morality. Their brain aren't capable of that form of complexity. But humans tend to personify animals and even objects, and describe them with human characters.

Obviously you belong to that Cartesian school stating that animals are quite like machines, unable of feelings and cleverness. Many ethologists contest that position, after many studies. But even without that question of feelings (and if you have a dog or a cat as a pet you would not say they have no feelings nor complex mind), animals feel pain and fear and death. So we could pity them.

But I don't like animals because they have human feelings. I rather their animal nature. Concerning innocence they are no more innocent than humans. Innocence does not exist, even among babies. And I don't care about that question of sins or innocence, that's religious idea.

Concerning my own sympathy or empathy I can't prevent it : it is not even a philosophical or religious duty (like buddhism) to like animals more than humans. That's my nature. Iranian philosophers like Mollah Sadra Shirazi and others thought that human souls have mineral, vegetable, animals and angelic levels. So I know at which step I have stopped my spiritual evolution :-D

Many islamic thinkers had more compassion for animals than Westerners. Despising animal world is more a Christian attitude.

Once I had two pet wolves - beautiful animals and very sensitive - made great guard dogs (cough cough) for my friends estate - I did not have space to keep them at home - they were very intelligent animals - far more intelligent than Fang, an enormous German Shepard that thinks he is a lap dog =))

Poor Piling you must be so bored now that your TV series has finished :D

I have just started on a very interesting book - it was thought to be a hoax or a forgery - but so much in it has actually happened that I wonder

"THE PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ELDERS OF ZION"

Really riveting read, but best read in small doses :ymdevil:

Then you know more than I do :-B

PLEASE tell me tell me tell me NOW

I have only just started reading it and so far it looks very interesting :D

I really would like to know more about the origins of the Protocols :D

Did you know that there is a connection between the English Defence League and Israel ;)

English Defence League (EDL) speak up and protest on behalf of the English people (both black and white) who are fed up with the influx of immigrants into England :-$

You also have an air traffic strike which will ground many UK flights

More than 330 flights in the UK have been cancelled because of a two-day strike by French air traffic controllers.

They are protesting against EU plans to create a single European airspace.

Passengers in the UK are being advised to check with their airline to see if services are running.

Good morning - such a lovely bright warm summer day - I have got all my lights and heating on :(

I believe that you get BBC TV and/or BBC iplayer - I do hope so because you will LOVE tonight's programme:

Secret life of the cat: What do our feline companions get up to?

Meet Ginger, Chip, Sooty, Orlando, Hermie, Phoebe, Deebee, Kato, Coco and Rosie. They are 10 of the 50 cats studied in the village of Shamley Green, Surrey, for Horizon's programme The Secret Life of the Cat.

Image

As part of one of the largest ever research projects into domestic cat behaviour, the Horizon team - aided by the Royal Veterinary College and Lincoln and Bristol Universities - tracked dozens of cats over several 24-hour periods using specially-designed collar GPS devices and tiny "cat cams".

The result? Scientists discovered the cats appeared to timeshare territory to avoid confrontation with neighbouring felines and visit each others houses. However, the cat cam footage also revealed squabbles over territory remained. There was also an incident with a fox and with a nest of fledglings.

Image

Read more about the science and technology behind the study from Alan Wilson of the Royal Veterinary College.

Watch Horizon's Secret Life of the Cat on BBC Two on Thursday 13 June at 21:00 and afterwards on BBC iPlayer.
