Is Fethallah Güllen screwing up the Nursi movement?

PostAuthor: Vladimir » Thu Feb 23, 2006 2:34 pm

Is Fethallah Güllen screwing up the Nursi movement with Turkish nationalism? What do you think? I saw some Turks and also Kurds who might know enough about this.. so tell us more.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

He is talking about a Turkish tarikat follow Said Nursi.I think they are biggest one who follow said nursi.

They are not much nationalist just a little(comes from Turkish education, in Turkey you cannot flee from becoming a nationalist), they are not agrresive against kurdish cultural rights.

I dont know why do you think, Nursi would not like from them.

Because he says that Turks are spreaders of Islam and is very nationalist. I doubt he supports Kurdish rights. Just show me one an article of him promoting Kurdish rights!

Newspaper zaman is in GULLEN'S HANDS! AND IT'S AGAINST KURDS! It's also full with propaganda!

Said NURSI, a KURD WOULD DESPISE HIM FOR HIS NATIONALISM!

But this is true, is it not? We are called as sword of Islam.

I think, I pasted an article from zaman. It was an interview with a kurdish woman who is mother of there terrorist. She is explaining tortures made at diyarbakır prison.

do you read zaman news paper? I find him a little more balanced, he is not pro-kurdish, but I dont think It is supporter of turkish fasism too.

Also Fetullah GÜLEN(Infact this is reason why I have some dislike against them) is not an activist. He mostly stay neutral, Their support for veil problem has not a long past too.

If he dont fight for his own reasons, why do you think he will fight for kurdish reasons?(I mean active way)

Said NURSI, a KURD WOULD DESPISE HIM FOR HIS NATIONALISM!

we can play this game from two side.

Infact Said Nursi will despite from nationalist kurds too. He will condemn and hate from PKK. He wont like idea of independent Kurdistan. He refused fight against Turks and Atatürk.

So Said Nursi would stay neutral at this conflict,(This is also what Fethullah Gülen was trying, but most of his followers are turk, so his tarikat is a little nationalist)

I think, trying to make Said Nursi as a kurdish nationalist, will destroy people respect against them.(Between religious people)

It is nonsense that followers of a kurd will hate from all kurds? I hope you wont think that these people call Said Nursi as turk.

Just read this. He spent his days on a Fethallah Gülen school.

I never said Said Nursi was a Kurdish nationalist. But he displayed his Kurdish identity. He even called himself Said Kurdi and promoted the use of Kurdish language in education. Later he tried another strategy.

But now Nursi is called a Turk. But Nurculuk movement and Fethallah Gülen movement are different. But both have much influence and don't portray Said Nursi's real historical character.
