Just be yourself. Say how you feel and show it in other romantic ways.

If you're gonna show a person that he/she is special:

Do something for him/her that you wouldn't do for anybody else... And make him/her realize how special he/she is by making them understand that it's not what you usually would do...

And - it depends what is "special"... For example - for some people, giving a hug would mean they are special... For others, getting a gift or a letter or whatever - would make them feel special...

You need to know that person very well before you actually go for it, though...
