A Kurdish family was on vacation in Southern Kurdistan and were on their way back home to Bergen, Norway via Syria. On a Syrian highway between Hama and Hims the disastrous event took place. A truck collided with their car - killing all members of the family except the eldest daughter at age 12 and the schoufere.

The father Salam Rebuar Amin (42), mother Zwya Noory Rasid (39), the two sons Kozien (11) and Hazier Rebuar Amin (8 ) all died. Leaving the 12 years old daughter the only survivor in the family.

The family is originally from Sulêymaniye in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) and were based in Kriglebotn in Nesttun (Bergen, Norway) for the last three years.

The tragedy which happened on the 3 th of August 2005 has been confirmed by the Fana police district and also by the Norwegian foreign affairs department.

An uncle from Germany came to take care of the girl after she had been under observation for several days in the Basil al Ashad-hospital in Deir Athia just 100 km north of Damascus.

The orphaned girl who had no severe wounds was taken to Southern Kurdistan by her uncle. "The bodies of her family were also transported to Southern Kurdistan for a funeral and burial there", says the Norwegian ambassador to Syria, Kari Wollebæk in an interview with BA.

Further she said that "her uncle came from Germany and wanted to tell her brothers daughter the bad news himself".

The Norwegian neighbors of the family told BA that the family was always very polite and kind.

Kari Wollebaæ also said that it was not certain if the girl would return to Norway - but stated that it would be dealt with after the funeral.
