Thousands of people across the UK have been left unable to send messages

Facebook, Messenger and Instagram have all stopped working for some users this morning.

The Facebook-owned social media apps went down at around 09.30 GMT, according to the website Downdetector, which monitors online outages.

The issue appears to be affecting thousands of users across the UK and Europe, with around 80 per cent claiming to be having trouble sending and receiving messages.

A further 20 per cent are reporting problems logging in.

Downdetector shows thousands of people have reported issues with the apps

The majority of reports came from users in the UK and Europe, with a small number in Indonesia and Eastern Australia

Facebook's private messaging app, Messenger, appears to be facing similar problems, with the majority of reports coming from the UK and Europe.

Downdetector also recorded a big spike in users reporting problems with Facebook's Messenger app

Almost 80 per cent of users said they were unable to receive messages on the Facebook Messenger app

Downdetector also recorded a spike in Instagram users having problems uploading posts and stories, although the issue seems to me a lot smaller, with only a few hundred reports

Frustrated users have taken to Twitter to share their anger.

One user wrote: 'Either Facebook messenger is down on my phone or my wifi is extremely poor this morn. Let me text my friends back!'

Another said: 'Is anyone else's messenger/facebook down atm? I cant even access most of my s*** on Messenger atm because it says unavailable

'Mate says that its down for almost everyone. Wonder what the hell is going on.'
