Bread and circuses

A extremely well known expression in political circles - though sadly not a widely known elsewhere :o)

29 January

I am sure that I am not the only person who is far from happy with the lack of progress being made at the Geneva 2 conference X(

I am at a loss to understand why the opposition are demanding that transition process take priority over prevention of loss of life and bombing of innocent people X(

Also in light of the recent upsurge in non-Syrian Jihadist fighters in Syria - I am not at all certain that the idea of a transition process and the formation of an interim government is as relevant as it was 18 months ago - when the Geneva 1 communique was compiled

MY list of priorities would include:

End all attacks on non-military personal and areas where non-combatants are know to be

Immediate implementation of a no-fly zone over Kurdish enclaves

Immediate help for Homs

Major powers to stop proving arms to all sides in the conflict

All countries willing to take refugees from Syria - should instead focus their attention on ending the conflict and helping to rebuild Syria so that these unfortunate people could return to their own homes

Those who were found to have bombed innocent people and hospitals - should be charged for crimes against humanity

30 January

Last day of Geneva 2 conference Friday:

Has the conference achieved anything - NO !

Has the conference achieved permission to send aid into Homs - NO !

Perhaps - instead of waiting another 18 months for the next conference - the powers that be could make it an annual event /:)

Another rainy day in England - cold winds - local river rising fast :(

Somerset has been almost entirely submerged for several weeks - the army has been send in to help - I think I prefer snow

1 February

So Geneva 2 was a waste of time - not surprising since they basis of the negations was the communiqué that came out of Geneva 1 18 months ago

phpBB [video]

In the past 18 months things have changed a great deal in Syria - yes a great many people in Syria - Arab Syrians as well as Kurds and other minority groups - would like to rid themselves of the Assad regime - BUT - with the vast increase in Islamic jihadist groups within Syria - many Syrians now want Assad to remain

To the average Syrian - the formation of a transitional government is no longer their major priority - they fear the ever increasing power of the jihadist groups - and given the choice between the Jihadists gaining power and Assad remaining in power they view Assad as the safer option - better the devil you know - unfortunately most of the opposition representatives seem to be totally unable to grasp this fact

From what I have read about the Geneva 2 Conference - it appears that most opposition representatives only went to the conference to eat and argue X(

I have not seen any mention of Homs receiving aid as yet - if the aid agencies wait much longer they will save themselves a fortune - because there will not be anyone left alive for them to help X(
