Soranî and Kurmancî inter-marriages...

PostAuthor: Diri » Wed Nov 16, 2005 8:58 pm

Okey - so Heval and I had this discussion (along with another Rojhilatî) about the anti-marriage mentality between Soranî and Kurmancî Kurds...

So I wanted to discuss this some more... And also get your oppinion on some questions...

Why should/shouldn't Soranî and Kurmancî speakers marry/not marry eachother?

If you are Soranî/Kurmancî - are there any Soranî/Kurmancî speakers in your family - or among your relatives?

If there is anything more you would like to say about the issue - please feel free...

LOL... Marriages between Soranî/Kurmancî... horrible... as if it were 2 ennemy nations... worse than Turkish/Kurdish or Arab/Kurdish marriages...

So I think that the best is to marry between cousins, according to traditionnal islam...

But in Mem an Zîn, Xanî wrote : "Love is a sultan and everybody should obey"... I think that Kurds should obey to their old poets...

infact I would prefer Kurmanci wife ... becuase I love their language..it is so so cute to me.... and I always enjoy listening to kurmanji spcially when a girl speaks kurmanji.

but if we look at it as a politcal problem , it is very very good for kurds .
i read in chris kutchra's book that , one of the biggest problem of the kurds been their diffrences in languages....they couldnt undrestand each other...so they couldnt make a united region...

if many sorani and kurmanji marry each othery , they will undrestand each other, and their children will aslo undrestand both languages.

by the way I move this topic to shout room as it has nothing to do with politics.

HELLO! OF COURSE IT IS POLITICAL! :?

Marriage between Kurmancî and Soranî will lead to our salvation... We need to UNITE and best way to do that is to start making differences between Kurdish groups (religious, political, social, cultural etc,) SMALL...

Ha ha Kak Dîrî !

Of course Soranî's and Kurmancî's should marry one another... and so should Gûranî's and Kurmancî's and Soranî's and Gûranî's and Zazakî's and Soranî's and Kurmancî's and Zazakî's etc etc etc

Kurds are Kurds. We should never divide ourselves based on the dialect we speak. How dumb would that be ??!!

Well done bira :)

Always better then marrying with other nationalities then Kurds. Especially in the diaspora Kurds tend to marry with non-Kurdish but Islamic races. You could argue from a theory of "racism", but you could also argue from out of a perspective of "culture preservation".

In a relationship mostly one culture dominates. It doesn't matter if it's Kurdish girl with a Dutch men, an Arab men with a Turkish girl, etc..

Especially for Kurds culture is important, because it's attacked on all fronts.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

well said , in iran every kurd guy or kurd girl who marries a non kurd, without any any any doubth their children wont speak kurdish ! belive me .

I dont know why , for example I have a friend, his father is kurd , his mother is iranian arab...my friend has born in kurdistan and has beeen live in kurdistan for 15 years !
but he cant even speak kurdish . he speaks farsi .

he himself is sorry for that ...but there is nothing that he can do .

I just dont know why why is that ...why every intermarage in kurdistan leads to disapearing the kudish identity.

even in marriage of normal kurds of iran with kurd of kermashan [or kermanshah]

kermanshah is a kurdish city which its peopel almost speak farsi .. they never particpated in kurdish nationalistic riots as other kurds did .

i have many relatives that married to kermanshahi kurd girls and again without any exception, all of their children speak farsi not kurdish.

In the Kurdish diaspora, even when a child is borned from 2 Kurds, he speaks often only English, Gemran, French etc., but more rarely Kurdish, even if he understand it. And we can guess that his own children won't speak nor understand Kurdish at all. The funniest is Kurds in diaspora where children speak Turkish and not Kurdish !

In most of migrant families, from Spanish in US to Chinese in France, etc, the 1st generation speaks its mothertongue at home, the second cunderstands it but does not speak it, the third neither speak nor understand it. That is a social fact, where intermariage have not a great role.

Im very ok with Soranî and Kurmancî inter-marriages, on the other hand i like it that kurds arent all the same.

In most of migrant families, from Spanish in US to Chinese in France, etc, the 1st generation speaks its mothertongue at home, the second cunderstands it but does not speak it, the third neither speak nor understand it. That is a social fact, where intermariage have not a great role.

Im also aware (and afraid) of this, i will speak to my future children in kurdish at least when they're young and perhaps send them to kurdish lessons so the language wont die in the family.
