This is the drone that attacked Poland, note the Duck tape holding the nose on :D

Not exactly frightening as it rests peacefully on top of a chicken coop

If you check online there are numerous larger photos (too big for my to download) which show that the drone has been gently placed on top of the roof without crashing into the overhanging trees =))

I delved further and found a clip of the man putting the drone of the roof:

Russia dismisses Zelenskyy’s threats

The Kremlin on Sunday dismissed threats by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Kremlin officials should know where the bomb shelters were, saying that Ukraine was losing the war and that its negotiating position was worsening

Zelenskyy suggested to Axios that the centers of Russian power, like the Kremlin, were potential targets, saying that Kremlin officials “have to know where the bomb shelters are.”

“Zelenskyy is trying to demonstrate to the Europeans, who now act as the breadwinners, that he is such a brave soldier,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television.

“Meanwhile, the state of affairs at the front indicates the opposite. With every passing day, the situation for Ukraine is inexorably deteriorating. And every day Ukraine’s negotiating positions are inexorably deteriorating.”

Russia controls 114,918 square km (44,370 square miles), or about 19 percent of Ukraine, and has taken 4,729 square km of Ukrainian territory in the past year, according to the pro-Ukrainian DeepState map project.

When asked directly by state television’s Kremlin correspondent Pavel Zarubin how the Kremlin would perceive an attack on the center of Russian power, Peskov said that “it’s better not to even talk about it.”

Self-determination is the right of people to decide their own future. This can mean two things:

Internal self-determination – When people have the freedom to manage their own political, economic, and cultural affairs while staying part of an existing country.

External self-determination – When a group decides to break away and form a new, independent country.

This idea is recognized in important international documents like the United Nations (UN) Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other agreements.

These documents say that all people should have the right to self-determination.

Ukrainian arrested for suspected
involvement in Nord Stream attacks

German prosecutors say Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Z., detained in Poland, is suspected of involvement in planting explosives on the Nord Stream pipelines near Bornholm Island in 2022

German prosecutors have announced that a Ukrainian citizen, identified as Volodymyr Z., has been detained in Poland on suspicion of involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The arrest was made at the request of German authorities.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the German Prosecutor General's office, Volodymyr Z. is believed to have taken part in a coordinated operation to plant explosives on both the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines near Bornholm Island in September 2022.

“The arrest warrant primarily accuses him of the following: Volodymyr Z. is a trained diver. He was part of a group of individuals who planted explosive devices on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines near Bornholm Island in September 2022. The accused participated in the diving operations necessary for this,” the statement read.

The German authorities allege that Volodymyr Z. played a direct role in executing the underwater operation that led to one of the most serious infrastructure attacks in Europe in recent years.

Polish media reported earlier on Tuesday that the Ukrainian national was apprehended based on a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. His detention marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Nord Stream bombing, which disrupted major gas routes between Russia and Europe.

All roads lead to Kiev?

Previous reports and investigations have also pointed to Kiev regarding the Nord Stream attacks.

In August 2024, Petr Pavel, the president of the Czech Republic, stated that the Nord Stream pipelines were a "legitimate target" for Ukraine during its war with Russia. He has simultaneously made it clear that he lacked evidence to support his claim that Kiev was indeed responsible for the attack on the energy infrastructure.

Speaking to the media outlet Novinky.cz, Pavel was asked to respond to The Wall Street Journal article that implied Kiev was responsible for the September 2022 explosions that destroyed the pipelines used to transport Russian gas to Germany and the rest of Western Europe.

The sources for The Wall Street Journal claimed that although Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky had originally given his approval for the strike, he later attempted to cancel it due to pressure from the CIA. However, the operation was carried out nonetheless by Valery Zaluzhny, the country's military commander at the time.

Pavel, a former NATO general, said that if the sabotage “was aimed at cutting off gas and oil supplies to Europe and [the flow of] money back to Russia, then... it would be a legitimate target,” adding, "Pipelines have always been and will always be targets because they have the potential to influence the conflict in one direction or the other."

Taiwan biggest importer of Russian crude oil

Some Western analysts say that Taiwan's increasing dependence on Russian energy "undermines Taiwan’s credibility with democratic allies"

Taiwan has overtaken other nations to become the largest global importer of Russian naphtha, a crude oil derivative essential for producing chemicals used in the semiconductor sector. This development comes despite Taiwan's declared alliance with Ukraine and its participation in sanctions against Moscow.

Between January and June 2025, Taiwan imported $1.3 billion worth of Russian naphtha, marking a 44% increase from the same period in 2024. Monthly imports have reached levels nearly six times higher than the 2022 average, according to a report released Wednesday by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, in collaboration with NGOs from Europe, Russia, and Taiwan.

Naphtha plays a vital role in Taiwan's economy, especially in the semiconductor and electronics industries that are central to the island's global trade presence.

Since February 2022, Taiwan has imported 6.8 million tonnes of Russian naphtha valued at $4.9 billion, equivalent to 20% of Russia's total naphtha exports.

Sanctions vs energy needs

Although Taiwan joined international sanctions following the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, it has not placed restrictions on the import of Russian fossil fuels. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung signed an agreement in Poland to assist Ukrainian children affected by the conflict.

Joseph Webster, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, noted to The Guardian that Taiwan's continued naphtha imports are "not immaterial to the Kremlin’s revenues," highlighting the contradiction between sanctions rhetoric and energy trade practices.

Despite aligning with Western powers on sanctions and export controls meant to curb Moscow's military capabilities, Taiwan's energy purchases indirectly contribute to Russia's war economy. Analysts view the situation as a reflection of Taiwan's strategic vulnerability due to its heavy reliance on energy imports, which account for about 97% of its total energy consumption.

Geopolitical implications of energy trade

The island's energy dependence is seen as a critical liability in the case of regional conflict. Taiwan's leaders have invested in civil defense initiatives, motivated partly by the geopolitical lessons from the Ukraine war.

There are concerns that Moscow's alignment with Beijing might extend to military cooperation if tensions around Taiwan escalate. Still, some experts urge caution against over-interpreting Taiwan's energy strategy.

Speaking to The Guardian, Hsin Hsuan Sun, director at the Environmental Rights Foundation and co-author of the report, warned that Taiwan's increasing dependence on Russian energy "undermines Taiwan’s credibility with democratic allies" and poses long-term strategic risks.

Russian missiles outsmart
US Patriot defenses in Ukraine: FT

Russia's upgraded Iskander and Kinzhal missiles are evading Ukraine's Patriot systems, reducing interception rates and heightening risks to infrastructure as Moscow renews its winter campaign

The Financial Times on Thursday reported that Russia has successfully modified its missile systems to outmaneuver Ukraine's US-supplied air defenses, marking a new stage in the aerial confrontation between Moscow and Kiev.

According to Ukrainian and Western officials, months of heavy bombardments indicate that Russia has enhanced the precision and maneuverability of its ballistic and hypersonic weapons. The recent strikes that crippled Ukrainian drone production plants this summer were cited as clear evidence of Moscow's improved capability to penetrate US-made Patriot systems.

Officials said the upgrades likely involve Russia's Iskander-M launchers, which fire missiles with a range of up to 500 kilometers, and the Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles, capable of flying approximately 480 kilometers. The modified missiles reportedly maintain a regular flight path before sharply changing direction or descending steeply in their final moments, a move designed to "confuse and avoid" Patriot interceptors.

A former Ukrainian official described the improvement as "a game-changer for Russia." The shift, combined with delays in Kiev's receipt of interceptor missiles from the US, has allowed Moscow to destroy key military and energy facilities ahead of winter.

Faltering Kiev Defenses

Data collected by Ukraine's Air Force and reviewed by the Financial Times showed that interception rates for Russian ballistic missiles reached 37% in August, but fell sharply to 6% in September, even though the number of attacks decreased. On Wednesday, the Ukrainian military confirmed that all four Iskander-M missiles launched overnight had evaded air defenses and hit their targets.

Several facilities tied to drone manufacturing in and around Kiev were damaged in the summer strikes, officials said. Among them was a Bayraktar production site hit on August 28, where two Russian missiles also struck nearby offices, damaging premises used by the EU delegation and the British Council.

Ukraine's Patriot batteries, the only systems in its arsenal capable of downing Russian ballistic missiles, have struggled to keep up with Moscow's evolving tactics. While older cruise missiles can still be intercepted by other defenses, the recent changes have made that task increasingly difficult, officials noted.

A Western official familiar with the system's data said analysts noticed a "pattern" in which Russian missiles behaved differently during their terminal phase, swerving away from their previous engagement profiles. The shift coincided with a decline in interception success, providing the first indication of Russia's technical adjustments.

That conclusion is echoed in a US Defense Intelligence Agency report covering the period from April to June, which found that Ukrainian troops "struggled to consistently use Patriot air defense systems to protect against Moscow's ballistic missiles because of recent Russian tactical improvements, including enhancements that enable their missiles to change trajectory and perform manoeuvres rather than flying in a traditional ballistic trajectory."

The report cited a June 28 attack in which Ukraine intercepted only one of seven missiles, and a July 9 barrage, one of the largest air assaults since the start of the war, in which Ukrainian forces managed to neutralize or destroy just over half of the incoming projectiles.

Adaptability Arms Race

Officials from Ukraine and the West said Kiev shares Patriot engagement data with the Pentagon and US manufacturers, including Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, to improve system performance. Yet one official acknowledged that "those improvements often lag behind Moscow's evolving tactics."

Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya told the newspaper that "the Russians continue to significantly upgrade their Iskander and other missiles' technology," urging Western allies to block the transfer of foreign-made components reaching Russia, including those funneled "via China."

Experts believe the increased efficiency of Russian missiles stems from software modifications rather than new hardware. Missile analyst Fabian Hoffmann of the University of Oslo explained that Russia, like other major powers, routinely uses real-world interception data to refine its guidance systems. "A steeper terminal trajectory — that's something you can programme in the missile," he said, noting that such maneuvers make the projectiles much harder to track and destroy.

Hoffmann described the technological race between both sides as an "adaptability game," in which each constantly revises tactics and systems to counter the other's moves.

Russia's Kinzhal missiles are launched from aircraft beyond Ukraine's defensive reach, while Iskander-M systems remain difficult to target due to their mobility. Some Patriot units have themselves been damaged after months of Russian strikes, and with other defense layers such as Iris-T systems redeployed or degraded, sources said the Patriots increasingly "have to cover themselves" during attacks.

Ukraine has not disclosed the number or deployment of its Patriot systems, but at least six batteries are known to be in service, with additional components recently provided by Germany and Norway. President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed for at least ten complete systems to strengthen the country's defenses ahead of expected winter assaults on the power grid.

Putin dismisses fears that Moscow
plans to attack Nato as ‘nonsense’

Vladimir Putin has vowed to quickly retaliate against Europe’s “escalating militarisation”, while dismissing as “nonsense” western fears that Moscow plans to attack Nato

During a wide-ranging speech in Sochi on Thursday, the Russian president said: “We are closely monitoring the escalating militarisation of Europe … We simply cannot ignore what is happening. We have no right to do so for reasons of our own security.”

“I think no one doubts that Russia’s countermeasures will not be long in coming,” he added, speaking at the Valdai plenary session, an annual gathering of officials and foreign policy experts where Putin often sets out his views on global affairs.

His remarks came as 45 European leaders gathered in Copenhagen for a summit aimed at bolstering support for Ukraine and accelerating defence projects intended to ensure the continent is capable of deterring Russian aggression. The meeting followed turbulent weeks in which several European countries reported Russian drone and jet incursions, raising fears that Moscow was testing Nato’s resolve.

While threatening Europe, the Russian president struck a conciliatory note towards Donald Trump, despite the US leader’s recent disparaging remarks about him.

In what appeared to be an attempt to win back Trump’s favour, Putin lavished praise on him, claiming that “if Trump had been in power, the conflict in Ukraine could have been avoided” – a line the US president has often used himself in public speeches.

Both Moscow and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have spent months trying to court Trump over the war in Ukraine, as the US leader has repeatedly shifted his stance.

In recent weeks, Kyiv appeared to gain the upper hand, with Trump expressing disappointment in Putin for prolonging the fighting and dismissing Russia’s economy and military as a “paper tiger”.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump recently authorised US intelligence agencies and the Pentagon to help Kyiv carry out strikes deep inside Russian territory – a move which would amount to a significant shift in US policy under his leadership.

Zelenskyy has also lobbied Washington for Tomahawk cruise missiles, Barracudas and other long-range US-made weapons capable of hitting targets up to 500 miles away.

As on previous occasions when criticised by Trump, Putin brushed it off, seemingly counting on the US leader to change his mind.

He described Trump as a “comfortable interlocutor” who knows “how to listen” and said Moscow was seeking a “full-scale restoration” of relations with the US, praising Trump’s administration for its “directness and lack of hypocrisy”.

Responding to Trump’s “paper tiger” jab, Putin suggested the remark might have been ironic, saying: “If we are comfortable being at war with the whole Nato bloc, but we’re a paper tiger, then what is Nato?”

The Russian leader also praised Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, saying former UK prime minister Tony Blair – expected to play a central role in the initiative – could “make a positive contribution”.

Putin then digressed to recall how he once stayed overnight at Blair’s home and the two had coffee together the next morning “in their pyjamas”.

The tone was notably harsher when it came to Europe, with most of Putin’s ire directed at the continent, blaming “European elites” for obstructing peace in Ukraine and “whipping up hysteria” in the region.

He said: “It turns out that war with the Russians is practically on the doorstep. They repeat this nonsense, this mantra, over and over again … They can’t believe what they’re saying, that Russia is going to attack Nato? They’re either incredibly incompetent if they truly believe it, because it’s impossible to believe this nonsense, or they’re simply dishonest.”
Putin also condemned France’s arrest this week of the crew on an oil tanker from Russia’s “shadow fleet”, which was suspected of serving as a launchpad for drone flights that forced Danish airports to close last week.

He said: “The tanker was seized without any grounds in neutral waters. This is piracy.”

On the war in Ukraine, there was no sign that Putin was seeking compromise or scaling back his maximalist goal of forcing Kyiv’s capitulation.

Despite Russia’s modest recent progress on the battlefield, he insisted that his forces were “confidently advancing” along the entire front.

Putin also claimed Ukraine was suffering far greater losses than Russia – even though western estimates put Russian casualties at close to a million, higher than Ukraine’s.

Given Ukraine’s losses, Kyiv should think seriously about starting negotiations

Joining European leaders in Copenhagen, Zelenskyy said Russia was “stepping up its destructive actions” and urged Europe to show the “political will” to act without delay.

The Ukrainian president said: “We see clearly that only joint action and united efforts can guarantee real security. No country should be left alone against this threat.” He called on Europe to “increase the pressure, and increase the pressure now, so that Russia is forced to end the war and change its policy”.

US-Russia diplomacy on Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that US President Donald Trump is working on issues related to achieving peace, with the Middle East situation serving as a vivid example

"He [Trump] is definitely trying, definitely working on these issues. Issues of achieving peace and resolving complex international situations. The most striking example is the situation in the Middle East. If we succeed in completing everything that Donald aspired to, everything that he talked about and what he is trying to do, it will be a historic event. It is just a historical event," Putin said at a press conference following his visit to Dushanbe.

Putin further stated that Donald Trump is actively engaged in resolving complex and long-term crises while also affirming Russia's support for the United States' initiative to settle the ongoing war on Gaza.

The Russian president added that his country has something to offer to resolve the unraveling situation in the Strip to guarantee implementation of the deal.

"I think Russia has something to say and something to offer to resolve the issues that will arise one way or another during the implementation of the agreements reached," Putin told the press conference, noting that, considering the level of trust between Russia and Palestinians, Moscow's participation could be in demand.

Russia-US understand direction on Ukraine

On the topic of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia and the United States understand the direction they need to take to bring that conflict to a peaceful conclusion.

During his press conference after visiting Tajikistan, Putin stated, "We did not disclose all details of what was discussed in Anchorage. We were just saying that, in general, we have an understanding between the United States and Russia about where to move and what goals to pursue to end this conflict by peaceful means."

Emphasizing the ongoing cooperation, Putin stated that Russia and the United States continue to operate within the framework established by the agreements reached at the Alaska summit in mid-August.

Putin further revealed that contacts exist between Moscow and Washington and that they are conducted through the Russian Foreign Ministry and the US State Department.

Further evidencing Moscow's readiness to negotiate, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to hold discussions with the United States on arms control issues, stating, "We are ready to negotiate, if it is acceptable and useful for the Americans, for the American side. If not, then no. But it will be a pity, because then there will be nothing left in terms of deterrence in the field of strategic and offensive weapons."

Russian nuclear deterrent

Shifting to the subject of military capabilities, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that the novelty of Russia's nuclear deterrence is higher than that of other states.

"The novelty of our nuclear deterrent is higher than that of any other nuclear state, and we are actively developing all this," Putin told reporters, adding, "Some experts believe that it would be necessary to conduct field tests, and in some countries they are thinking about it, as far as we know, they are even preparing it. So I said that if they do, then we will do the same."

Furthermore, the Russian president addressed the US withdrawal from the recently signed START treaty, considering it "not critical for Russia."

"If the American side decides they do not need this, it is not critical for us at all. Everything is going according to plan in this regard," Putin stated.

Ukraine’s infrastructure war
as it warns anew of nuclear disaster

Dmitri Kovalevich warns that October’s intensifying infrastructure war between Ukraine and Russia, strikes on power, gas and oil facilities, favors Russia and risks leaving Ukraine with severe energy shortages this winter, while renewed panic over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant raises the specter of broader escalation

Kiev ‘needs’ an infrastructure war to demonstrate its usefulness to Western imperialism by reducing sales of Russian energy in foreign markets and increasing sales for Western corporations
Since the beginning of October 2025, a so-called infrastructure war has intensified between Ukraine and Russia with mutual strikes taking place against energy facilities (power plants, gas, and oil refining infrastructure).

Due to the initial inequality in the scale of their economies, territories, and forces needed to protect facilities, Russia is winning this war that it never invited. Ukraine risks being left with sharply reduced natural gas and electricity supplies this coming winter due to its provocative actions initiating this phase of the war.

The war, beginning in February 2022 between the Russian Federation and post-coup Ukraine began in the Donbass region in April 2014 with a more limited war at the initiative of Kiev. The 2014 coup and the war begun in Donbass by Kiev in April 2014 remain the immediate origin of the present conflict
Last year, Ukrainian authorities reported to the country that all energy facilities had received protective covers, claiming to have spent billions in Western aid for this purpose. This year, it turns out that this promise was fiction; energy production and transmission facilities remain unprotected and are hardly a wise choice by Kiev for new wartime terrain.

Ukrainian energy facilities have not been properly protected, wrote legislator Oleksiy Kucherenko on October 3. He claims that none of the shelter structures to protect a total of 21 energy infrastructure facilities that were talked up by Kiev have been completed. The funds, he writes, were simply “buried in the ground”.

Former spokesperson for the army of the Lugansk People's Republic, Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Marochko, claims that the corruption of Ukrainian officials is one of the reasons for Russia’s seemingly slow war of attrition, despite the attacks being waged against Russian territory. "Many Ukrainian officials perform positive functions, resulting in achieving our victory sooner than we might otherwise.

The officials embezzle funds intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine; in particular, there is currently a financial scandal involving the supply of drones. The question then arises of why we should eliminate such ‘useful’ people whose actions, in fact, have a positive impact for Russia by weakening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian regime?" he asks. Marochko became the spokesperson for the army of the breakaway Donbass republic of Lugansk in 2014.

In fact, Kiev ‘needs’ an infrastructure war to demonstrate its usefulness to Western imperialism by reducing sales of Russia’s energy resources in foreign markets and correspondingly increasing sales for Western energy corporations. This new phase of the war prompts a need by Russia to further complicate the logistics of Western arms deliveries to Ukraine and continue to damage or destroy arms production proper on Ukrainian territory.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel ‘Media Post’ writes on October 6 about the new round of the infrastructure war: “Philosophically speaking, we can talk about a return to the world of geopolitical materialism, of energy, metals and transport. These are once again becoming a decisive factor of power, not simple declarations and vacuous statements of values.

A civilization based on the post-industrial dogmas of ‘green’ energy and ‘soft’ power is facing a reality where heating and natural gas supplies are becoming the new language of power. Russia, acting through energy, is not destroying the old structure of the world, it is restoring it.”
As the founders of Marxism explained nearly two centuries ago, the real structure and foundational base of the world is not merely ideological; it builds upon material foundations.

Ukraine renews its threats against nuclear energy facilities

The onset of October is bringing worsening weather and increased electricity consumption to Ukraine. Kiev and its Western allies are voicing once again ‘concerns’ about the fate of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), controlled by the Russian Federation since early 2022.

The plant was previously the largest source of energy production in Ukraine and one of the 10 largest nuclear generation plants in the world. It is located on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, less than 50 km from the city of Zaporizhzhya, sixth largest in Ukraine.

On September 19, the International Energy Agency (AEA) adopted a resolution calling on Russia to return the ZNPP to Ukrainian control. The resolution was initiated by Ukraine and its Western partners. Then, on September 23, the ZNPP was attacked by Ukraine, causing the last of its ‘live’ power lines to fail and prompting a switch to a backup generator power.

On September 27, Yuri Chernichuk, the Russian director of the ZNPP, announced that there is enough diesel fuel for the backup generators to keep running for a long time. Nevertheless, on September 30, Zelensky again warned of an undefined, potential ‘nuclear disaster’ at the plant, this time to the UN Secretary-General.

Zelensky’s words implied that the Russians themselves intend to damage the station and its power lines, which could then cause a nuclear disaster resembling the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986. But it is obvious that any accident or sabotage at the plant would be dangerous first and foremost for the Russian Federation, which is now claiming the territory on which the plant sits.

We are to believe, contrary to all logic, that the Russian military and government are preparing to strike their own nuclear facility and thereby place in grave danger the lives of citizens, nuclear technicians and soldiers working at the plant or protecting it and living around it. No one serious can believe such a story.

Also on September 30, officials of the European Union called on Russia to immediately withdraw its forces from the ZNPP and return control of the plant to the Ukrainian authorities in order to “minimize the risks of a nuclear accident with global consequences”.

Media in Britain is fueling panic, warning of a “new Fukushima”, referring to the nuclear power plant disaster in Fukushima, Japan in March 2011. The disaster was caused by a tsunami sparked by an undersea earthquake.

In early October, Ukraine joined in stirring up the panic by distributing instructions to its citizens of what they should do in the event of an accident at the ZNPP. The instructions advise stocking up on water and sealing windows and doors. Residents within a 50-kilometer radius of the plant are advised to prepare for immediate, emergency evacuations.

On October 1, former Ukrainian Environment Minister Yuriy Kostenko alleged that Russia is deliberately bringing the ZNPP closer to a nuclear disaster of unprecedented proportions, “according to the Fukushima scenario”.

On October 1, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) followed the lead of the EU and Kiev by declaring there would be a nuclear disaster at the ZNPP if the disruption of network power to the plant continued. He alleged that the diesel fuel in the backup generators might only last for ten days.

Grossi conveniently failed to mention what, exactly, might prevent diesel fuel from being delivered for the backup generators. According to him, a nuclear fuel meltdown could happen if backup generators were to completely shut down. In other words, systematic pressure is being exerted ‘on all diplomatic fronts’, including involvement of the United Nations, the IAEA, and the EU, in order to return control of the ZNPP to Kiev.

This is happening at a time when virtually all energy industry spokespeople in Ukraine are scaring its citizens with the prospect of prolonged blackouts this winter.

Analysts at the Ukrainian Telegram channel ‘Analytical Eye’ note that some Ukrainian government spokespeople and media outlets are deliberately exaggerating the situation, especially in making comparisons to Chernobyl. "The most important and harmful fake news is that ‘the plant could explode like the Chernobyl nuclear power plant did’. This is absolute nonsense. There will most likely be no ‘second Chernobyl’ here, fortunately for all of us. So there is no need to storm pharmacies and buy up all the potassium iodide there," the channel writes.

Regarding the potassium iodide recommendations being issued by Kiev, the website of the Centers For Disease Control in the US recommends: ‘Do not take KI [potassium iodide] unless instructed by public health or emergency response officials, or by a healthcare provider,’ and, ‘KI is recommended only for people under 40 and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.’

According to the authors of ‘Analytical Eye’, it was a reactor operating at full capacity which exploded at Chernobyl in 1986. Such an explosion cannot happen at the ZNPP because the plant needs to be in full operation conditions in order for a thermal explosion to occur. All six units of the plant have been shut down and out of operation for several years.

Nevertheless, the risks of an accident, albeit on a smaller scale, still remain, as fuel in a non-operating reactor can overheat. Water is needed to cool it, which is supplied by pumps, which in turn require electricity. At the moment, that electricity is sourced from the plant’s diesel-powered backup generators.

“Let's acknowledge the obvious: the Russians, whoever and wherever they may be, are definitely not ‘nuclear suiciders’. It is highly doubtful that they are deliberately trying to cause a radiation accident,” concludes the channel
Ukrainian energy expert Viktor Kurtev also wrote on October 2 that an accident similar to the one at Fukushima is impossible at the ZNPP because the power units at the plant are currently cooled. According to him, it would take at least two months for the units to heat up to a 350º threshold. “Then the cooling water would begin to evaporate, and if the temperature rises to 500 degrees, a dynamic balance would be reached.

Even if nothing works, heat loss from the reactor will be balanced naturally. This temperature would not be enough to cause melting the of the body and fuel of the plant’s reactors,” the expert wrote.

Speaking at the annual Valdai Discussion Forum in Sochi, Russia on October 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the recent shellings of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant by Ukrainian forces and said the IAEA can see everything clearly but does not want to say who, exactly, is shelling the nuclear power plant controlled by Russia.

“[IAEA director] Grossi was there and IAEA employees are there, seeing everything, but they are silent, embarrassed by what is happening. Are we, Russia, striking ourselves? It's clear that this is nonsense,” said the Russian president.

Putin also recalled that there are other nuclear power plants in the territory controlled by Kiev, and none of these have been attacked. Ukraine quickly interpreted these words as a new and direct threat to strike other Ukrainian nuclear power plants, thereby causing a ‘nuclear apocalypse’ that would also affect neighboring European countries.

The new wave of panic surrounding the ZNPP indirectly indicates the growing supply crisis in the Ukrainian energy industry. At the same time, the ZNPP may be a kind of ‘bonus’ that Kiev wants to offer to the Trump administration and US investors as part of a natural resource deal over Ukraine that would draw the US government and military deeper into the conflict, in part through personal interest and stake.

New threats against Crimea

There is another important aspect to the Ukrainian interest in regaining control of the ZNPP. The plant is located on the left (east) bank of the Dnieper River, which is territory of the former Ukrainian oblast of Zaporizhzhia, now under the control of the Russian Federation. This new territory lies on the road to Crimea for Ukraine. It now sits behind robust lines of defense newly built by the Russian army.

In October, the Ukrainian army continues to retreat, losing territory every day. Nevertheless, ideologues and government spokespeople in the West are raising the specter of a suicidal storming of Crimea by Ukraine’s armed forces, weakened and battered as they are. These voices say that seizing territory in Crimea could disrupt important maritime trade routes of Russia and block its Black Sea navy fleet which harbors in the Crimean city of Sevastopol.

Recently, former British Defense Minister Ben Wallace called not only for the destruction of the Kerch (Crimea) Bridge (for which he has demanded that Germany supply Taurus missiles to Kiev) but also for the entire peninsula to be made “uninhabitable”.

Such statements reveal the inhuman nature of Britain’s pro-war politicians, who do not blanche at the thought of making ‘enemy’ countries and territories “uninhabitable”
Military analyst Michael Clarke of Britain’s Sky News is cited by the outlet on October 1 to the effect that Ukraine is preparing to launch a major attack on Crimea, trying to land troops and occupy territory, and striking the Kerch Bridge. According to him, this could affect how the West perceives Ukraine.

Simply put, such advice and urgings by media and government spokespeople in the West are pressing the retreating Ukrainian army into an attack on Crimea for the sake of ‘improving the image’ of its armed forces, no matter how suicidal and obviously futile this step may be.

Previous attempts at a counteroffensive targeting Crimea have been repelled by Russian defenders and have cost Kiev many thousands of its soldiers, killed, captured or injured.

In an interview with the Unian media outlet on October 2, Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmitry Pletenchuk once again reflected on plans to cross the Dnieper River as part of a combined arms operation to storm Crimea. He calls this crazed proposal “a can opener for the Russian Empire”, that is, something which could lead to the collapse of the modern Russian Federation.

Ukrainian legislator Alexander Dubinsky emphasizes that an attack on Crimea is nonsense, since any landing operation in the Black Sea in the coming weeks or months will be impossible due to weather conditions. Storms typically rage in the waters surrounding the Crimea peninsula during the autumn and winter.

Even Ukrainian neo-Nazi Maxim Zhorin (a commander of one of the regiments of the neo-Nazi ‘Azov Battalion’ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) is dissatisfied with the talk of storming Crimea once again being offered up to the Ukrainian public. “I have no idea what gives them reason to talk about any major offensive operations today, especially in Crimea. In terms of forces and resources, in terms of the moral and psychological state of society, we are not ready for such operations,” Zhorin insists, stressing that it is already difficult for Ukraine to maintain its defense lines, leave alone maintain lines to be further extended.

Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Anton Cherny says that Ukraine may send soldiers on a suicide mission to Crimea in order to cause an international sensation for a few days. Similar attempts to land small groups in Crimea were tried in 2023-2024 and failed. "Perhaps we will manage to land and hold out for some time, but as soon as such an action becomes uninteresting to the Western world and ceases to be a sensation, it will quickly come to an end," says the officer.

Cherny emphasizes that even in the event of a successful landing operation, Russia would quickly knock the landing force out of action. But such a futile action might nevertheless impress Kiev's Western pro-war donors enough to keep funds flowing.

For the sake of making such ‘impressions’, Kiev says it is ready to drown its servicemen in a futile operation in the Black Sea while risking the loss to the civilian population of the entire country of wintertime electricity and heating. Such is where the newfound ‘war on infrastructure’ may well end up.

Trump suggests Erdogan could help
broker peace in Russia-Ukraine war

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could play a role in bringing the war in Ukraine to an end, citing Ankara's influence with Moscow and its ongoing mediation efforts

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington from Egypt, Trump was asked whether any world leaders, particularly Erdogan, might help resolve the conflict.

"Erdogan can," Trump replied. "He's respected by Russia. Ukraine, I can't tell you about, but he is respected by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin."
The comment came shortly after Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi convened more than 20 world leaders, including Erdogan, in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for the signing of a Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Trump described his Turkish counterpart as one of the leaders he connects with easily.

"I get along with the tough ones," he said, referring to Erdoğan.

Ankara diplomacy

Since the start of the war in February 2022, Türkiye has positioned itself as a rare intermediary with open lines to both Moscow and Kiev. Ankara hosted the first high-level talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul's Dolmabahçe Palace in March 2022, where proposals for neutrality and security guarantees were discussed before negotiations collapsed.

Later that year, Türkiye, together with the United Nations, brokered the Black Sea Grain Initiative, allowing Ukraine to export millions of tonnes of grain through a safe corridor despite the ongoing war. The deal helped stabilize global food prices and earned Ankara international recognition as a pragmatic mediator. Even after the agreement's collapse in 2023, Turkish officials have pressed for its revival.

In addition, Ankara has facilitated multiple prisoner exchanges, including a major swap involving Azovstal commanders in 2023, and reportedly hosted renewed Russia-Ukraine backchannel meetings in 2025 aimed at humanitarian cooperation.

Dual strategy

Analysts say Türkiye's dual approach, allegedly supplying drones and defense aid to Ukraine while maintaining trade and energy ties with Russia, has given it diplomatic credibility on both sides. Erdogan has repeatedly urged a negotiated settlement and offered to host direct peace talks, most recently during his September meeting with Putin in Sochi.

Experts view Trump's remarks as a signal that Washington may see value in leveraging Türkiye's relationships to restart dialogue.

For Erdogan, mediation offers both strategic and economic dividends: increased regional influence, prospects for reconstruction contracts in Ukraine, and leverage within NATO as a power capable of talking to both East and West. But analysts also warn that balancing between Washington and Moscow carries risks, particularly if either side perceives Türkiye as drifting too far in the other's direction.

Russia accuses UK, Ukraine
of sabotage against TurkStream

Russia has accused the United Kingdom and Ukraine of attempting coordinated sabotage operations against the TurkStream gas pipeline, a vital conduit transporting Russian natural gas to Turkey and European markets

During the 57th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) session in Uzbekistan, Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov revealed some of the details behind the plot.

According to Bortnikov, British instructors from the Special Air Service (SAS) and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), in coordination with Ukrainian intelligence, are actively planning a series of attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure. These operations reportedly include drone strikes on the TurkStream pipeline, as well as attacks on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, a multi-national venture with Russian, Kazakh, and US shareholders.

Bortnikov said that the UK has been directly involved in training and coordinating these sabotage groups.

"Together with MI6, they are coordinating Ukrainian sabotage groups to carry out raids in Russia’s border regions, targeting critical infrastructure using drones, unmanned boats, and combat divers," FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov stated.

The FSB director further revealed that British intelligence orchestrated Ukraine’s SBU “Spider Web” operation conducted on June 2, 2025, prior to Ukraine–Russia talks in Istanbul. Bortnikov said the UK managed a propaganda campaign exaggerating the operation’s impact and attributing it solely to Ukraine. In addition, Russian authorities reported a series of FPV drone attacks in June on airfields across Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions.

Failed attacks on TurkStream

These remarks follow earlier reports of Ukrainian plans to target TurkStream. In November 2024, German media outlet Der Spiegel reported that former Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Valerii Zaluzhny had proposed a plan codenamed “Diameter,” modeled on the 2022 Nord Stream sabotage, to target the pipeline. The plan reportedly failed, and no independent evidence has confirmed its execution.

Russia has also intercepted multiple drone attacks on TurkStream infrastructure in January 2025, which were described by Moscow as acts of “energy terrorism,” though the facilities continued normal operations. Additionally, Russian forces shot down three more Ukrainian drones in early March following another attempted strike on a TurkStream compressor station.

TurkStream remains a strategic energy artery for Europe, delivering Russian natural gas to Turkey and several European nations. Any disruption to its operation could have serious consequences for regional energy security.

Trump, Putin to meet in Budapest
for talks on ending Ukraine war

US President Donald Trump said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to hold a summit in Budapest aimed at advancing talks to end the war in Ukraine, following what he described as a “very productive” phone conversation on Thursday

The announcement came a day before Trump’s scheduled Friday meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, where Trump is expected to brief Zelensky on the US–Russia discussions and potential next steps, and Zelensky is expected to push for additional military aid, including the long-range systems.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the two-hour phone call with Putin yielded “great progress,” adding that both leaders discussed prospects for peace and post-war relations.

“I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation,” Trump wrote, noting that the talks would be followed by lower-level meetings between Washington and Moscow next week. He confirmed that he and Putin plan to meet in Budapest “to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ war between Russia and Ukraine to an end.”
No date has yet been set for the summit, and the Kremlin has not publicly commented on the details of the call.

Kremlin: The call was initiated by Russia

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said the conversation took place “on our initiative” and that both sides highlighted the “deep mutual sympathies of the peoples of both countries,” referencing cooperation during World War II.

“It was highlighted that the current state of affairs in bilateral relations looks paradoxical amid this,” Ushakov told reporters in Moscow.

He confirmed that representatives from both countries would “immediately begin preparations for the summit,” which could take place in Budapest, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are expected to hold a phone conversation “in the coming days” as part of the preparatory work.

Putin congratulates Trump on Middle East 'accomplishment'

According to Trump’s account, Putin congratulated him and the United States on what he called the “Great Accomplishment of Peace in the Middle East,” describing it as an achievement “dreamed of for centuries.”

Trump suggested that progress in the Middle East could help facilitate negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The US president also said that Putin expressed appreciation for First Lady Melania Trump’s humanitarian work with children, and that the two leaders touched on post-war trade relations between Washington and Moscow.

Kremlin aide Ushakov later confirmed that Putin had outlined Russia’s “principled position” on achieving a comprehensive Middle East settlement, based on a generally recognized international legal framework that would guarantee sustainable peace for all peoples in the region.”

Tomahawk supply would damage Russia-US relations

The Trump–Putin talks come as Kiev faces mounting pressure on the battlefield and intensifying attacks on its energy grid.

Ukraine has requested long-range Tomahawk missiles from Washington, a move that would allow it to strike deep into Russian territory. Trump has previously said he could authorize such weapons if Putin fails to engage in meaningful peace talks.

In this context, according to Ushakov, the Russian president told his US counterpart that a possible supply of Tomahawk missiles to Kiev would not change the situation on the frontlines but would damage Russia-US relations.

"Vladimir Putin reiterated his point that the Tomahawks will not alter the battlefield situation, but they will cause significant harm to relations between our countries," Ushakov said after the phone call between the two leaders.

Putin also stressed Russia’s commitment to a political and diplomatic resolution of the situation in Ukraine.

"A special emphasis during the phone call was placed on the Ukraine crisis. Vladimir Putin provided detailed assessments of the current situation, highlighting Russia’s interest in achieving a peaceful political and diplomatic solution," Ushakov said.

US pushes economic pressure on Russia

Ahead of Thursday’s call, Trump claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed to stop buying Russian oil and that his administration would urge China to take similar steps.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reinforced Washington’s stance on Wednesday, saying the United States would “impose costs on Russia for its continued aggression” unless the conflict comes to an end.

Next steps

Trump said Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the American delegation in next week’s talks with Russian officials to lay the groundwork for the Budapest summit.

As both sides prepare for the high-stakes meeting, analysts say the initiative marks one of the most direct diplomatic engagements between Washington and Moscow since the war began, though it remains unclear whether it will bring an immediate change to the situation on the ground in Ukraine.

Trump Says No Tomahawks for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump said Friday he wants to end the war in Ukraine without supplying Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles, signaling caution on a key weapons request as he hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get the war over with without thinking about Tomahawks,” Trump said during a joint meeting with Zelenskyy. The US leader added that Washington also needs the long-range cruise missiles to maintain its own stockpiles.

Kyiv has repeatedly urged Washington to approve the delivery of Tomahawks, which would give Ukrainian forces greater ability to strike deep into Russian-held territory. Zelenskyy had hoped the White House talks would produce a breakthrough.

The Ukrainian leader, for his part, pressed the case for a ceasefire, drawing parallels with the recently brokered truce in the Middle East. “We want to build on this momentum to end the war in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy told reporters, stressing that Moscow’s mounting battlefield losses and economic struggles make the timing ripe for negotiations.

He argued that a ceasefire in Ukraine, similar to that in Gaza, could pave the way for peace — but said Russian President Vladimir Putin remained opposed. “Our country needs security guarantees and weapons, and I will discuss that with President Trump,” Zelenskyy added.

Trump reiterated his desire to halt the conflict and revealed he had recently spoken with Putin. “I want to end the war in Ukraine, and we will do that,” he said. The US president suggested a possible trilateral meeting with himself, Putin, and Zelenskyy, saying he believed the Russian leader “wants to end the war.”
At the same time, Trump underscored the difficulties of approving Tomahawk sales. “Providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles is not easy, and I hope they won’t need them,” he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining adequate American stockpiles of drones and missiles.

Trump also touched on global energy dynamics, claiming that “India will stop buying Russian oil, while Hungary is finding it difficult to give it up.”

The meeting underscored both Trump’s desire to position himself as a broker of peace and the tensions surrounding Ukraine’s urgent calls for heavier weaponry as the full-scale Russian invasion grinds into its fourth year.

Medvedev rejects Trump's
idea of dual victory

Dmitry Medvedev rejected President Trump's proposal for both Russia and Ukraine to claim victory

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday that Russia must secure victory in the Ukrainian conflict under "conditions that are well-known to all," dismissing recent remarks by US President Donald Trump that suggested both Moscow and Kiev could "claim victory" to end the war.

The statement followed Trump's October 17 meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, which Axios described as "tough." During the talks, Trump reportedly told Zelensky that the United States would not provide long-range Tomahawk missiles, arguing that such weapons risk escalating the conflict and depleting US stockpiles.

Medvedev reacted sharply to the remarks, writing on social media: "Trump, during the meeting with the whining beggar [Zelensky], said an obvious but rather curious thing — that Russia and Ukraine should both claim victory in the conflict. Yes, this often happens at the end of an armed conflict, but this is not our case. And it is not just that we need a victory under conditions that are known to all. This is an axiom."

He dismissed Trump's suggestion as impractical, saying any cessation of hostilities would spell the collapse of the Ukrainian government. "The current Bandera gang will not be recognized as a winner at home under any circumstances. The drug-addled freak [Zelensky] and his cronies understand this perfectly well. The loss of territories will not be forgiven either by rabid Ukrainian Nazis or by his political rivals. Therefore, the end of the war is the death of the regime. So, Trump's thesis does not work here," Medvedev wrote.

While acknowledging Trump's refusal to deliver Tomahawks to Ukraine, Medvedev cautioned that this did not mark the end of Western arms shipments, warning: "Russia should be prepared for anything."
Tomahawk Debate and US Strategy Shift

Trump's hesitation over the Tomahawk cruise missiles, which Ukraine had sought to strike deep into Russian territory, represents a major shift from Washington's earlier tone. In recent months, Trump had publicly floated the idea of sending the weapons if Moscow resisted peace efforts.

However, after a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ahead of a potential Budapest summit, the White House opted for restraint, citing fears that such deliveries could trigger direct US-Russia confrontation.

The Associated Press reported that Zelensky left Washington "disappointed," after failing to secure guarantees on Tomahawks or expanded air-defense systems.

European Push to Sustain Ukraine's War Effort

Meanwhile, European allies are signaling their intention to sustain Ukraine's war effort, even as Washington edges toward a diplomatic track. The European Union is advancing a plan to use frozen Russian assets, worth about €140 billion, to fund weapons purchases for Ukraine, including US-made arms, should Trump's administration agree. European leaders argue that a pause in US support could embolden Russia and weaken Kiev's bargaining power.

Within the EU, countries like Poland, France, and the Baltic states have urged continued military assistance until Ukraine achieves what they call a "strategically favorable" position. The Weimar + group (France, Germany, Poland, and the UK) reiterated that Europe will support Ukraine "as long as it takes," rejecting any peace proposal that does not restore territorial integrity or include credible security guarantees.

Russia's Warning to the West

Earlier this month, Trump said he had "sort of" decided on whether to approve Tomahawk deliveries, remarks that prompted President Putin to warn that such a move would "severely damage" US-Russia relations, as the deployment of Tomahawks would entail direct involvement of American military personnel.

Moscow continues to insist that Western arms deliveries undermine peace efforts and draw NATO deeper into the war. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed that any shipments containing weapons for Kiev will be treated as legitimate targets for Russian forces.

Europe proposes 12-Point
Ukraine peace plan led by Trump

European nations, in coordination with Ukraine, propose a 12-point peace plan based on current front lines, with US President Trump expected to lead mediation

Bloomberg reported that European countries, in coordination with Ukraine, are working on a 12-point proposal to end the war, which is based on the current front lines between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

The proposed peace plan would be overseen by a peace council chaired by US President Donald Trump, Bloomberg further reported, citing sources.

A number of European leaders have urged the United States administration to maintain its position, calling for an immediate ceasefire, with the current front lines forming the basis for any future negotiations.

The report also indicates that the plan stipulates a commitment from both sides to halt any further territorial advances, return deported children to Ukraine, and carry out prisoner exchanges.

The negotiations will be held at a later stage regarding the administration of the territories under Russian control, without this leading to any European or Ukrainian legal recognition of the legitimacy of Russian control over these areas, according to Bloomberg.

In this context, Reuters reported, citing two American sources, that "Russia has renewed its previous conditions for concluding a peace agreement with Ukraine in a private statement sent to the United States," with the statement reiterating "Russia's demand for full control of the Donbas region."

Separately, Russia confirmed on Tuesday that its prerequisites for a peace agreement in Ukraine have not altered since the summit last August between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart, Donald Trump.
Putin, Trump agree to meet in Hungary

This comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine, with the United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreeing to meet in Hungary.

US President Donald Trump announced that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to hold a summit in Budapest aimed at advancing talks to end the war in Ukraine following what he described as a "very productive" phone conversation on October 16.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the two-hour phone call with Putin yielded "great progress" and added that both leaders discussed prospects for peace and post-war relations.
