PostAuthor: Sirwan_Qutbi » Sat Apr 19, 2008 8:56 pm

Hello there, I supposed to be a kurdy faili (if thats how you spell it). But I dont know how to speak it. Is Faili a language that is different to other kurdish languages. Or is there one Kurdish language.. im confused.

Anyway how do you say :-

1) Hello, do you speak english?

2) Hello, my name is Sirwan, and Im thinking about going to Kurdistan

3) Hello, where is your local architects office.

4) Hello.. yeah.. I dont like Turk's either, lets go fight some.

5) Do you like hip-hop music? Do you know who Soulja-boy is?

It's "Kurdî", Bariş, not "kordi" ... And "nazanim" not "na zanim" - that would be like saying "bil miyorum" in Turkish...

@Sirwan Q

Bro, there are three Kurdish languages: Kurdmancî (in Northern, Central and Southern dialects), Zazakî and Hewramî...

Feylî is Southern Kurdmancî - in e.g. it belongs to the Goranî branch... It originates from Pehle - in Iranian Kurdistan... Arabs don't have P so they say Fahle and the -î suffix is added to denote Fehlian = Fehlî... And now people pronounce it as Feylî instead of Fehlî... Which originally should be pronounced as Pehlî... That's today's history lesson...

Slaw = Hello

1) Inglîzî dezanît?

2) Nawim Sîrwane û demanawê birome Kurdistan...

3) Ofîsî mîmartan le kwêye?

4) Minîş hezim le Turkekan niye - ba biron seriyan bişkênin ( = "let's go break their heads")

5) Hezit le mûzîkî Hip-Hop heye? Dezanî [goranîbêjî bi nawî] Solca-boy kêye?

You do understand that I was only as critical as I was because I consider your efforts WORTH critique...!

Not every non-Kurd is as keen and cunning with Kurdish... I think you did a very good job, kardeşim... Ama bence Kürtçeni çok geliştirmişsin... :)

Spas Diri gyan. :D I can't take the credit though. I learned phrases from my Türkmen friend Mahmoud in Kerkük. He says Kurdi can be spelled Kordi too. Is this correct? Also are these phrases right?:

Hi my eyes. - Slaw chawakam.

Are you good? - Chakit?

I'm good. - Bashm

What about you? - Ay to?

I'm glad. - Mn dlxoshm.

You're sure? - To dlniyait?

I'm sure. - Mn dlniyam.

I kiss your nice eyes. - Aw chawa jwananat mach akam.

My friend. - Havali mn.

My dear. - Barezm

My dear friend. - Hawre gyanakam.

A happy day. - Rozeki shad.

Take care. - Agadar ba.

Take care of yourself. - Agat la kot bet.

Goodbye - Xuda hafiz.

No, we'd rather you call our language as we do ourselves: Kurdî... It's an English "u" sound, not an an "o" sound... The Kurdish and English "u" are the same, by the way...

Just as the one found in "unwanted", "unintentional", "url" etc... I will check your Kurdish sentences another time, abisi...

Where did Sirwan Q go to?

A little "thank you" would have been nice...

Okey, bra. Sorry about that. Kurdî. :D I've not been pronouncing ''Kurd'' right. So it doesn't have ''ü'' sound as like in ''gül''?
Was saying ''Kurd'' like ''Kürd''.

Alrighty, Zor spas in advance... :)

I don't know. Hopefuly he'll come back.

Barezm = My respected one. Gyanakam = My dear. And you can say "Bashit?" for "Chakit?" too...

Something which is used very widely: Ahwalt? = What's up?/Anything new from you? Same as Turkish "Naber?" ("Ne haber?")
