I have to mention:

The Republic of Mahabad 22 January 1946

This Kurdish state did not last long. The Persian army attacked after the Soviet-Union withdrawed its support. The President of the Republic, Qazi Muhammed, decided not to flee. He decided to stay so that the civilians, the Kurds, would not face retaliation by the Persian army. He was, together with several other leaders, including his brothers, were executed on 30 March 1947.

Qazi Muhammed is the bravest Kurd who ever lived. Knowing full well that he would be
executed, he surrendered himself in order to prevent the slaughter of many thousands of Kurds

Qazi Muhammed is my hero and is also the hero of the owner of this forum :x

A few Kurdish military leaders left the Republic to fight another day. One of them was General Mustafa Barzani. General Mustafa Barzani was born in a patriotic Kurdish family in South-Kurdistan (Iraqi Kurdistan). His brother started the struggle for a free Kurdistan in 1930, during the Amed Barzani Rebellion. They continued their struggle in 1943, during the Second Barzani Revolt.

Mustafa Barzani managed to escape to the Soviet-Union in 1947. He rebuild his amy, and they returned to South (Iraqi) Kurdistan in the 1950's. They started the First Kurdish-Iraqi War in 1960, which lasted until 1970. They were supported by Israel and Iran, and managed to inflect heavy casualties on the Iraqi Arab Army. The Iraqi Army had ammunition left for 2 more weeks of battle until ultimate annihilation by the Kurds.

At this point, the Arabs decided to offer autonomy to the Kurds. This autonomy lasted until 1974. The new Iraqi Ba'ath Regime, under leadership of Saddam Hussain, rebuild the Iraqi Army and invaded Kurdistan. This time, the Kurds were without support. Iraq offered Iran the important Shat Al-Arab sea-route if they stopped their support to the Kurds (Iraq broke this promise in 1979-80, which lead to the Iran-Iraq War). Iraq also received military support from Syria (Algiers Agreement).

The Second Kurdish-Iraqi War lasted until 1975, the Iraqi Arab Army occupied South-Kurdistan again. The General moved to the United States seeking treatment for his lung cancer, he passed away on 1 March 1979, in the Georgetown Hospital in Washington D.C. He is still seen as one of the most important Kurdish leaders in history.

But the Kurdish revolutionary movement was never defeated. The day Barzani left, Jalal Talabani took over the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (P.U.K.) and started a new rebellion against the Arab occupiers (Saddam used to joke about 'Mam (Uncle) Jalal', Talabani is currently the President of Iraq). This rebellion lasted until the Uprising (Raperin) of 1991. The Iraqi Army was defeated and retreated from South-Kurdistan. A No-Fly Zone was established to protect the Kurds from another Genocide (182,000 innocent Kurds were killed by the Arabs during the Al-Anfal Campaign in the late 1980's).

The Kurds gained full autonomy of Iraqi Kurdistan in 2005. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) was established and is officially recognized by the international community. The KRG is, officially, still a part of Iraq, but functions as any other independent country in reality. The Kurds are self-ruling, prosperous and independent. The Arabs (Baghdad) does not have any influence over this region, and residents outside the KRG, need a special Visa and permission to enter the Kurdish Region.

Remember that the PKK was not set up by Ocalan on his own

The PKK was set up by a small group of friends who were upset by the way in which the barbaric state was treating the Kurdish population in Turkish occupied Kurdistan

I believe that allowing Ocalan to be the spokesperson for the group was a mistake

Murat Karayilan would have made a far better leader

The PKK offered Kurds

FREEDOM

The many THOUSANDS (at one stage over 60,000 freedom fighters) who left their homes and families to go to the mountains and join the PKK - did so because after so many years of suppression, torture, slaughter and disappearances - they believed they were fighting for FREEDOM - they were willing to die for that freedom

Remember Kurds were already dying in countless numbers at the hands of the vile Turkish regime

It was so bad in Turkey that when Kurds held any form of protest only ONE family member would attend because they were likely to be arrested or shot

Imprisonment did not mean the prisons people complain about this century

For Kurds a prison was a place of torture, starvation and death

A place where Kurds were made to drink urine and eat excrement

Where people died in agony from beating - broken bones - weeping sores

Ocalan's fame grew when he adopted the nick-name APO

APO being the nick-name of another much loved Kurdish leader

The original APO was loved and respected so much so that many boys were named APO in his honour

Qazi Muhammed was also a man of honour

BRIGHT BLESSING TODAY IS IMBOLG

Imbolg, also known as Candlemas, comes six weeks after Yule and six weeks before the Spring Equinox. At this time, Witches honor the Celtic Triple Goddess Brid (pronounced Breed) in her maiden aspect. Brid or Brigid is goddess of fire, inspiration, healing, craftsmanship, and midwifery. She is patroness of the hearth, poets, smiths, craftspeople, healers, and priests.

Imbolg is the winter Festival of Lights. It is the quickening of the year, the first fetal stirrings of Spring in the womb of Mother Earth. Spring lies within sight and the seed is prepared for sowing. It is a fire festival, but emphasis is put on light rather than heat -- light as it begins to pierce the gloom of winter.

February 2 is also Groundhog's Day (USA). The groundhog is a manifestation of the God. He has been sleeping since Samhain and stirs in his slumber to get a take on the coming light.

If Candlemas day be sunny and bright, Winter again will show its might.
If Candlemas day be cloudy and grey, Winter soon will pass away.

Going to moot tonight :ymdevil:

Going to place my new wand on the alter

As believers in the old ways we abhor the killings done in the name off the Abrahamic beliefs and their many massacres :ymsick:

Pagans and Druids are among the many and various groups slaughtered by ALL the Abrahamic savages

We believe in peace and sharing :ymhug:

we believe:

DO WHAT YOU WILL SAVE THAT YOU

HURT NONE

In our beliefs:

When 2 February is a bright and sunny day it means that winter will return for the next 6 weeks

It was a bright sunny day so will have to get my jumpers our :(

We had a guest who told us a lot about Muti:

Muti is a term for traditional medicine in Southern Africa as far north as Lake Tanganyika. The word muti is derived from the Zulu word for tree, of which the root is -thi.

In Southern Africa, the word muti is in widespread use in most indigenous African languages, as well as in South African English and Afrikaans where it is sometimes used as a slang word for medicine in general.

Flying Scotsman's mainline return after £4.2m revamp

One of the world's most famous locomotives has returned to the West Coast mainline. :x

Flying Scotsman is travelling from Carnforth on the West Coast Main Line following a £4.2m restoration project, which has taken 10 years.

The engine, which was retired from service in 1963, has been restored for York's National Railway Museum by Riley and Son Ltd, based in Bury.

Low-speed tests have taken place along the East Lancashire Railway.
