Shooting suspect charged as terrorist
The alleged gunman who shot 10 people and left at least 19 others injured in a horror attack on a Brooklyn subway has been arrested in Manhattan’s East Village and faces a federal terrorism charge
Frank Robert James was taken into custody on Wednesday after being on the run for more than 24 hours.
Mr James, 62, was named as the only suspect wanted for the Tuesday morning rush hour shooting on a packed N train travelling to Manhattan from Sunset Park.
The shooting unfolded at 8:24am when the gunman donned a gas mask and opened a gas canister inside a subway carriage after it left 25 Street station.
He opened fire inside the train and on the station platform as it pulled into 36 Street. All victims are expected to survive.
A gun, magazines, gas canisters and fireworks were recovered from the scene, with the investigation suggesting the gun may have jammed.
The NYPD recovered a U-Haul van on Tuesday that was allegedly rented in Mr James’s name.
The motive remains unclear but disturbing YouTube videos came to light of Mr James ranting about Mayor Eric Adams, gun violence, the subway system and NYC’s mental health system.
Subway shooting suspect Frank James was seen on video being led out of the 9th Precinct in Manhattan and taken into federal custody ahead of his first court appearance on Thursday.
Mr James is scheduled to appear in federal court in Brooklyn on Thursday on a federal terrorism charge.
