That is what they call Kurds... Kurd = Qordaye...

Or perhaps you are asking for the "deeper" meaning of "Qordaye"? I don't think there is any... Just that it means "Kurd"...

ah ok. Qordaye, perhaps from Gord. More logical than the shifting from K to Q in their semitic language;

Actually - for them it is very natural to shift between "g", "k" and "q" - that depends on the dialect, I think...

Will have to ask Rumtaya...

Kurdistan is even bigger :shock:
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Well according to the first article, "Kurd" came from the Babylonian "Quradu" meaning "warrior." Maybe "Qordaye" or "Qurdaye" is just another variation of "Quradu."

Yes... Which again has turned to "Gord"... And has kept it's meaning: Warrior... Then turned into "Kord" - when the Arabs came running through...

Sooo to sum this whole thread, Kurd is derived from a word that means brave warrior/fighter?

The Xenophon in the Anabasis calls the Kurds Kardoxi or Kardos.
In his third and fourth book, to them it presents as population draft-evader, brave and most capable in the military art, particularly guerrilla war. The course of Greeks in the Kardoxia places kept seven days, during which the Greeks met intense resistance and were forced in hard battles. What word Goti or Koti also, is named the residents of mountainous regions that dominated the Assyrians, it means warrior. In the Assyrian language the word become as Kardo or Kordo.

Xenoohhon did not call Kurds "Kardux". He just mentionned "Kardux people", but there is no evidence that they were Kurds.
