Turkey Turning Islamist??? Have your say...

A place to talk about domestic politics in Middle East (Iran, Iraq , Turkey, Syria) Also includes topics about Assyrian, Armenian, Chaldean .

Turkey is planning to establish itself as the chief Islamic power in the world. It only has three competitors: Indonesia, Iran, and Pakistan. Most Arabs don't consider Indonesians true Muslims because they mostly believe in four pillars (excluding Mecca); Pakistanis are poor as dirt and are more concerned about the length of their beards more than anything; Iran is stagnant with unemployment of about 15%, economic growth around 5%, and the international community is turning on them. That leaves Turkey as the most likely candidate to assume a role as the leader of the Islamic community. Its economy has grown an average of 7% over the last three years, and in the first half of 2006 it again averaged 7%. For Kurds to identify themselves firstly as Muslims and attempting to befriend the Muslim community means bowing to the Turks.

@Saipul
I think you don’t know anything about Turkey.
it would never happened, Turks dreaming to become another bigger Turkish fascist empire in the region, but not Islamic one.
While Islamic empire would be itself is a biggest fascism of its kinds, Turk may don’t mind if they cant join Europe, to use such tools. But surely they cant fool Kurdish nation anymore..they may fool camels(Arabs)..

For those that said I am wrong, I am sorry to prove you wrong.

Turkey has belonged to NATO for more than 40 years, and last year, 52 percent of Turks found NATO was still essential to their security. This year, 44 percent do.

---

Similarly, opinion poll support for Turkey to join the European Union has been falling dramatically, from over 65 percent three years ago to below 50 percent today.

---

But the latest Pew Center survey this summer found that only 12 percent of Turks now have a positive view of America.

---

In Turkey, the survey found that on a 100-point "thermometer" scale, Turkish "warmth" toward the United States declined to 20 degrees from 28 degrees from 2004 to 2006, while Turkish warmth toward Iran increased to 43 degrees from 34 over the same period.

Warmth toward the EU was 45 degrees, down from 52 two years ago. Warm feelings were far lower toward certain European countries, with 31 degrees for Spain, 30 for Italy, and 25 for Britain and France, apparently because they are perceived as anti-Turkish. Germany, with many residents of Turkish descent, registered 44 degrees.

You honestly don't think Turkey will have an Islamist future? Ha, saying I don't know anything about Turkey. What political party is in power in Turkey right now? What direction is the AKP going? More or less conservative? You can't seriously think Turkey is going to keep fooling with the EU, especially since interest in joining the EU will drop to below 20% in the next five years.

Turkey will follow money, If we gain It from middle east, we are muslim, If we gain It from Europea we are european.

AKP is following EU because of money.

If Turkey want to become leader of sunni muslim world, She already would be.

She is most powerful country of Sunni Islam.

Exactly. As part of the EU Turkey is just another country, and Turks are realizing that. That's why they're turning to Islamofascism, becoming anti-American and anti-Israel, etc. Time will prove me right.

If Turkey will become an Islamic state, there will be a civil war.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Amîn!

You think so? I even suggest that Turkey invade and annex Southern Kurdistan - that too would lead to not only Southern Kurdistan's liberation, but also Northern Kurdistan - because Turkey could NEVER suppress and contain ALL those Kurds under her controll... So she'd lose not only the newly annexed Southern Kurdistan, but also the Northern part of Kurdistan - because they'd be in a much stronger position with the Southern Kurds being in the same boat as them! 8)

How do you think it's possible Turkey will turn Islamist - and in turn that Kurdistan will be independent? Is there something you are hiding from the rest of us? :P

Exactly, and everyone knows this, simple fact!,

In simple words: turkey will lose all the western support which helped them to stay on power!
