Open source in Kurdistan

Hello!



In February and March we, two Swedish teachers, plan to go to Kurdistan to take part in a project aimed at teaching young adults (between ages 18-30) the basics of computer- and internet-use: writing e-mails, doing searches, chatting, using blogs etc. We intend to present the students to the Open Source alternatives and will also give opportunity to internet-interaction with students in Swedish adult education.

We are going to give the course during one month and of course an underlying goal is to broaden the perspectives of democracy, where the possibilities of internet can play a role. Our question to you is if you have any suggestions, information etc. that could be helpful to us. You might know more about, for instance, what the internet use looks like and what technical solutions are good. Advice in any of these areas would be very helpful!

i wish i could be any of help, but as i am assuming you are going to Southern Kurdistan(Northern Iraq) and as i have never been there, i don't really know how is it like. but these days there are many young Kurds online all living in South Kurdistan, which tells how high is the use of internet overthere.

hope some other members in this site can give you informations.

Your question is a bit abstract. Could you please elaborate?

There are many online Kurdish communities. Perhaps you should make a list of all the sites and get into what each of the sites is "good" for and what use you can have of the site in your educating of the youth?

Furthermore I think you will find that a lot of your problems/questions will be solved once you get more into online Kurdish communities...

I realize now, I don't realy know what experience you do have and what you don't have----> Perhaps you could enlighten us on how much info you have regarding Kurds and Kurdistan? That way, I think it may be a bit easier to help you out...

Also could you clarify what you said about what we "might know more about internet.... etc."?

hhehe, lol, sk, true that, but believe me apart from sending emails or saying "am katat bash" to girls in chat rooms, there are some talented youth using it for developing web pages and so on
