Looking for my tribe! Please help!

Hello everybody..

I know that my fellow tribesmen live different places in Turkey. But I have also heard that some live in Northern Syria, and in the Khurasan enclave as well.. Maybe we can find them in other places too?

Have anyone heard of the following tribe(?):

Kavi, Kavli, Kavili, Kavilli, Kavilu, Kavlu, Kaviyanlu, Kawiyan, Kowan, Kowanlu, Qovanlu ?

If anyone have heard of it or knows anything about this tribe, then pleace share it with us.. Where do they live? What are their religion? Which dialect do they speak?

But - in this book, the tribes are listed according to region... So to make it easier to find what we're looking for - I need to know in which regions of Turkey, Kurdistan, Syria etc. you might think they may be based in...

Thank you very much for your interests.. But I also have the book you mentioned. And my tribe is also listed in it, but only the ones settled in Adiyaman, and in this book it also mentions that the tribe has a branch in Syria.

By the way.. Are you a "Turkish" Kurd ? :O

I have a hard time putting myself into a "box" - "Northern" or "Eastern" Kurd... "Iranian" or "Turkiyeli" Kurd... You see I am from Colemêrg, and if you know the story about Colemêrg, then it will be easy to understand why I have a hard time saying I am from Bakûr or Rojhelat...

The story is simple: The province today known as "Hakkari" in Turkey, is actually "Colemêrg" - but of course as part of Turkification policies of the state - names have been changed for every Kurdish town, village, city, valley, river or mountain...

But - "Colemêrg" was slightly larger than todays "Hakkari" province in Turkey... It also included Ûrmiye and all the lesser towns all the way to the Ûrmiye Lake:



Also - in addition to the Eastern part of Colemêrg being under Iranian controll, the Turks have given a lesser piece of Colemêrg to Van Province - including the towns of Elbak (Başkale) and all the way to Xoşav (Güzelsu)...

Now my tribe has a long history in all of Colemêrg - so I have a hard time defining myself to "Turkiyeli" or "Iranian" Kurdish... My own father and mother are from the Eastern half of Colemêrg... My fiancè is from Western half of Colemêrg...

So in all - I would define myself as neither "Turkiyeli Kurd" nor as "Iranian Kurd" - but as Colemêrgî...

Yes I do - although my Turkish is more fluent than my Farsi... I get to use my Turkish every once in a while - but I hardly ever use my Persian - so you could say it's "rusty"...

And I only learned Arabic script last Januar - so now, finally, I can read Farsi, Arabic and Soranî Kurdish...

How about yourself? Do you see yourself as a Dersîmî? And your English is very good - I'm guessing you're based in America?

Yes, I know what you mean... I also want to learn Arabic and Hebrew - so that I'll be able to communicate anywhere in the Middle East... I have already done a course in Hebrew and one in Arabic at the university...

Could you look if there is a tribe with the name "Zaza" in the asiret list? Or is it only the surname of some Kurds? Because I know a Kurdish family with the surname from Rojava/Damascus.
