raman82 wrote:YES dude , Sohrab not sohrav , was Afghan but see , afghanistan was central to Kharzemid empire before it was annihilated by turkic/mongol tribes in 12-13 the century . All poets like Rumi , Omar Khayam come from there lol , hard to belive but its true . Sohrab came from some province in central Afghanistan. lol.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sohrab. That province was famed for lots of Buddhist monastries ,hence the inspiration and influence.
I can understand Dari (Pure Persian) but Farsi accent is very thick , lots of oos , they dont say Jaan , they say Joon , Tu becomes To . Interestingly a native dari speaker can understand Farsi but the converse isnt true lol. Im not a native speaker but I understand basic persian (dari)

But your still similar in tone to bikram singh lol. YOU KNOW ITS TRUE .
So this is where we differ!
As you know, "Ab" means "Water" in Persian/Dari... In Kurdish, that is "Av"/"Aw"... So çi "Sohrab" çi "Sorav"... Same thing... The Persian/Dari version would be "Sorxâb" (for "Red Water"). And the story of Sohrabê Rostemê Zal is a myth - probably based on some real life story, which then gathered popular interest - and the details of this story will vary from Tajikistan to Kurdistan... There is no concrete and one-sided proof that Rumi or Sohrab were from Afghanistan...
I'm from Iranian Kurdistan - and my father named me what he named me because it's just as much a Kurdish name as any other - and it carries a meaning in Kurdish - if not two...Although my speech isn't a brag - I do comprehend most of it and can make myself undstood in Persian... I've seen from Persian sources that it means "Rosy Glow" or "Glittering..." etc. - but never that it means "Devine" or "Compassionate" - which are beautiful meanings too... Thank you for the info, anyway
I see you don't pay much attention to details bira...
Remember bira, there isn't one but several versions of matters - and especially in cases like these (linguistics, history & culture) where you'll find each ethnic group holds a different point of view...
From a Persian point of view, Sohrab is a Persian name... But likewise, the Turkmen of Turkmenistan use the name "Soxrab" and will say it's a Turkmen name... So it's not that I dispute the name's origins, but rather the idea that there is one single truth about it...
Thanks for the compliments - but I still disagree... Although I do understand and agree that from my old avatar, I did resemble him a little...
You look like Sharukh Khan, by the way... (
