German Secret Service: No Proof of PKK Involvement in Drugs

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:28 pm

LONDON, England – In the 2011 report of the German Intelligence Service, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) claims there is no proof that the “organization structures of the PKK [in Germany] are directly involved in the narcotics business.”

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is banned as a terrorist group in Germany, but organizes several large-scale events, rallies and demonstrations in the country through the Federation of Kurdish Associations in Germany (YEK-KOM). It also maintains good relations with the German leftist party Die Linke, according to the BfV.

Moreover, the BfV notes that supporters of the PKK’s youth organization, Komalên Ciwan, organized partially militant sit-ins which attracted considerable public interest and media attention. The BfV adds that the PKK tries to recruit young Kurds and uses the Internet as a means of propaganda, but says there is no proof the group is involved in drugs.

According to the book “Blood and Belief: The PKK and The Kurdish Fight For Independence” by journalist Aliza Marcus, it was an open secret that Turkish Kurds were involved in heroin smuggling, with some of them donating drug money to the PKK. But, Marcus notes, it does not seem that the PKK, as an organization, has directly produced or traded in narcotics.

The U.S. president named the PKK as a significant foreign narcotics trafficker under the Kingpin Act in May 2008. In October 2009 and April 2011, the U.S. Treasury Department designated a total of eight PKK leaders pursuant to the Kingpin Act. In 2012, the U.S. sanctioned three Moldovan-based individuals -- Zeyneddin Geleri, Cerkez Akbulut (a.k.a. Cernit Murat) and Omer Boztepe -- as connected to PKK drug trafficking networks.

In March 2010, in an interview with Reuters, PKK rebel commander Murat Karayilan, accused by the U.S. of being a “drug kingpin,” denied that the group is involved in drugs. Karayilan said the PKK is willing to open its camps in the Qandil Mountains in northern Iraq for investigation.

The PKK itself claims it does not allow drugs into areas it controls. For example, in a report from the pro-PKK news agency Firat on July 4, the PKK destroyed drugs fields in the Kurdish city of Efrin in Syria.

ERBIL, July 21 (AKnews) - The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced today its responsibility for the oil pipeline blast in southeast Turkey.

Turkey Helicopter Crashes in Kurd Region; 4 Killed

PostAuthor: brendar » Sun Jul 22, 2012 4:23 pm

A Turkish paramilitary helicopter crashed Sunday in a southeastern region where troops are fighting Kurdish rebels, killing four security personnel on board, officials said. Eight others were injured.

The S-70 Sikorsky helicopter, belonging to Turkey's paramilitary police force, crashed while landing near an outpost in Hakkari province, close to the border with Iraq, the military said in a statement posted on its website. It was carrying four crew members and 11 security personnel.

The military said the helicopter experienced a loss of power and crashed. But Firat News, an agency that is close to the rebels, claimed the helicopter was downed by rebel fire.

Kurdish rebels have used northern Iraq as a springboard for attacks on Turkish targets in their decades-long fight for autonomy in Turkey's Kurdish-dominated southeast. The conflict has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people since 1984.

A total of five Turkish soldiers were killed and seven others injured late on Sunday when a military helicopter crashed in the southeastern province of Hakkari, near the Iraqi border.
The S-70 Sikorsky helicopter crashed after it appeared to lose power during a landing in a remote, mountainous area of Hakkari's Dağlıca district, the General Staff revealed in a statement on its official website soon after the crash occurred.

The helicopter was carrying soldiers to a site in Hakkari's Yüksekova district where military operations are being conducted against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The wounded soldiers were taken to hospitals in Van province following their initial treatment at Hakkari Military Hospital.

Although the General Staff has said the crash was due to a technical failure, the online release stated that an investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Funerals for some of the killed soldiers were held in their hometowns on Monday. A funeral was held in Samsun's Havza district for Infantry Specialist Sgt. Muharrem Saygun, who is reportedly the father of two daughters, a 9-month-old and a 3-year-old.

A funeral for Infantry Spc. Sgt. Regaip Şahin is scheduled for today in Sakarya province, followed by a burial at the Serdivan Martyrdom Cemetery. Funerals will also take place for Infantry Spc. Sgt. Muhammet Şahin in Manisa's Sarıgöl district with a burial at a cemetery in Yeşiltepe village, and for Sgt. Ahmet Çağlar in Ankara's Keçiören district and Lt. Nuri Akman in Samsun's Vezirköprü district.

It has been a violent few days for the Turkish military. Another Turkish soldier died after a hand grenade exploded in his hand in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari at around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the Yeşiltaş military outpost in the Dağlıca area. A total of eight other soldiers were injured in the explosion. The injured were transferred to a state hospital in Van province by military ambulance helicopters.

Early Monday, three soldiers were also injured when a military vehicle went off the road and rolled several times during a patrol near Ankara's Beypazarı district. The injured troops were taken to the Gülhane Military Academy of Medicine (GATA) for treatment. The soldiers did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the PKK is also being accused of setting fire to a truck, which was carrying food supplies to a military outpost in the eastern province of Tunceli, late on Sunday. According to information from Tunceli Governor's Office, the PKK militants stopped a civilian vehicle carrying food supplies to the Ataçınar gendarme outpost in the Malazgirt district of Tunceli and burned the vehicle on Sunday night. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly released. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) launched a military operation in the area to capture the PKK members.

In a similar incident, PKK opened fire, using long-barelled shotguns, on a civilian vehicle, which was carrying food supplies to Yeniyazı gendarme outpost in Bingöl's Genç district on Sunday night. The two people in the vehicle were able to escape due to the late- night darkness. The PKK reportedly set the vehicle on fire after the two men escaped.

That is why I hate reports from turkish media article on roj bash , because they mention the word terrorist at least 10-15 times in each article .

Any way thanks for noticing heval . I have removed the word terrorist from the article and in the future it would be great if we all replace the word terrorist with Peshmerga .
