when you lsiten to kurdish music your not suppose to listen to the modern bullsh*t, but the old traditonal stuff which is the best, listen to the Sehids of kurdistan, like Muhammed Aref.

zakaryia is one of the worst singers to hit the market, i really do not like him.

the two camps

PostAuthor: Nistiman » Wed Sep 14, 2005 4:28 am

Why must there be two camps when it comes to kurdish music. Really, i find it interesting that this is the case: Either you think the old kurdish dengbej style songs are outmoded, or else modern kurdish music is garbage. There is hardly a position in between.

But, both positions are weak.

If the best Kurdish music are those created by those not living anymore, that means we'll be listening to the SAME songs for .... EVER!

However, if you do not appreciate the old styles then you cannot create new Kurdish music because you will not have mastered how to convey the Kurdish spirit.

I think that the older kurdish music should be made models for good Kurdish music but musicians should be able to adapt those Kurdish motifs and create original NEW music.

Yes, Sivan, Ciwan, and Cizrawi can be enjoyed by the same ear!

I agree. I love all Kurdish music from Hessen Zirek to Sivan Perwer to Diyar to Nasir Rezazi to Bilend to Chopy to Zakaria. I think if you can appreciate the quality of the music brought forth, you can appreciate them in any form. Above all, they are all Kurdish music, and God bless all of these artists for giving us such a wide variety to choose from... otherwise we could get bored very quickly.

I love dengbes!

For me a guy like Zakaria has no originality. He could be singing in farsi, turkish or arabic, it would be the same soup....middle eastern pop.

Yes for an UNTRAINED BRETON ear it might be the same... But hey - then again you Westerners thought it was the same if we had a Kurdistan or not in the first place - and so we LOST our Kurdistan - and now our music isn't good enough for you...

Go listen to Edit Piaf and stop talking shit about Zakarîa... :?

Zakarîa is a great singer with a wonderful talent. If you cannot distinguish his music from the music of other Middle Eastern cultures, then you shouldn't be a judge of music because it is not your talent.

You're all too cute!

I don't care about Zakaria it was provocation. I just said after 12 hours or more listening the same tape of him I could have killed him.
In the first place it was not so bad

The perfect kurdish lover...I'm not fan of this kind of music in any middle east country Of course his music is kurdish, but the main colour of it is "middle east pop", with sugar voice, love song and lover's eyes...

She is beautiful when she carries Kurdish clothes or a wedding dress. She has a new video now. 8)
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

OH PLEASE - you are NO music expert and you have no idea WHAT Kurdish music is and WHY it is distinct from other Middle Eastern music... Sorry MACK - you ain't got it... Calling Zakarîa "Kurdish Tarkan" is a GREAT insult!

You should learn the meaning of a term called "ethnocentrism" and also while you are at it you migh wanna learn the opposite of it: "culturalrelativism"...

Learn Kurdish before you judge Kurdish music... You ARE aware that LANGUAGE/WORDS are a VITAL part of a SONG? :?
