I have been looking at Distro Watch and think that I might try Snowlinux

I confess I do actually have more than one computer (not all of them work) and a couple of netbooks and a laptop and NO TV

I have got books and music and chocolate lots of lovely CHOCOLATE

I had an idea

A group of regular site users should get together and each take responsibility for you checking and posting the news.

I use the BBC, Rudaw, Reuters, mostly non-Kurdish sites

Dyaoko has provided a list of Kurdish sites written in English, let us divide the news agencies up between us

Late again. Well I was waiting for someone to answer my last post but nobody did. So now I am feeling all sad and unloved

I think that the most horrendous thing has has come to light in the past few hours is the discovery of all the bodies on the riverbank in Aleppo. Who were they? Were they Kurdish? Why were they executed, many of them with their hands tied behind their backs? Who would have done such a terrible thing? Taking a life, any life is always a terrible thing, but to tie up then execute what could be as many as 100 defenceless young men leaves me sickened.

It must have taken a large group of Arabs to capture so many people, hold them prisoner and shoot them.

It appears that the Turkish government is changing it's constitution from that of a Secular country to a more Islamic country. Not a democratic decision. It was a decision that should have taken place as part of the governments manifesto in the coming elections. People should have had the right to vote on what many women fear, could be a life changing situation.

Those burkas do have one BIG advantage. If I wore one of those nobody would know how much chocolate I have eaten

SERIOUSLY, Muslim ladies do fear that they would be forced to wear such clothing.

Women seldom get the chance to tell men how they should behave and dress. Given the chance I expect a large percentage of women would tell their husbands to share their moustaches OFF and STOP smoking

State run boarding schools/prison camps

Many Kurdish families were forced from there homes and lands, their towns and villages destroyed by the Turkish government. This we all know but little is ever written about what happened to the poor homeless Kurds.

I know that many of them lived in urban ghettos and shanty-towns. I also know that because there was not much call for farmers in the ghettos of Istanbul, most of the poor Kurds were near to starving.

Parents unable to afford to even feed their children properly often had no choice other than to send their children to the Turkish state run boarding schools where they would stay until they had finished school.

I know that the boarding schools were run along the lines of prison camps, with barbed wire and ARMED prison guards. They were also places of fear and violence, yet I cannot find anything about those schools on the internet.

Does anyone have any information regarding those schools?
